Description
Amond is a character from the 1990 animated film Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, where he serves as a prominent member of the Turles Crusher Corps. His name is a pun on the word almond, continuing the nut and seed-based naming theme shared by his comrades.
Before joining Turles, Amond had a background as an atrocious and vicious criminal who rampaged across the galaxy. His criminal activities eventually led to his arrest by the Galactic Patrol, after which he was imprisoned on the planet Nutts. His confinement was short-lived, as the low-class Saiyan warrior Turles attacked the same planet on the day of his imprisonment. In the chaos, Amond escaped and subsequently encountered Turles, who recruited him into his personal squad known as the Crusher Corps. Following his recruitment, Amond became the second-in-command of the group, answering only to Turles himself.
In terms of personality, Amond is characterized by his vicious and ruthless nature, showing no hesitation in using overwhelming force against his opponents. Despite his cruelty, he displays a notable level of respect and deference toward his leader, Turles, even addressing him with the honorific Mighty Turles. He is confident in his own power and looks down on those he considers weaker, as demonstrated by his dismissive taunts toward the Earth's protectors.
Amond's primary motivation, shared with the rest of the Crusher Corps, is to increase his power by consuming the fruit of the Tree of Might. The group travels across the universe planting the tree on various planets, allowing its roots to drain the planet's life force and produce a fruit that grants immense power to those who eat it. Their ultimate goal is to grow strong enough to defeat the tyrant Frieza and conquer the universe themselves.
In the story of The Tree of Might, Amond and his comrades arrive on Earth after determining it is a perfect location for planting the Tree of Might. Upon arrival, Amond uses his Planet Bomb technique to clear a large area of land, creating a deep hole in the process and inadvertently destroying Yamcha's new hover car. This allows another Corps member, Daiz, to plant the seed from which the tree rapidly grows. When the Dragon Team arrives to destroy the tree, Amond engages in combat with Krillin. He demonstrates his superior power by easily handling Krillin and even counters Krillin's signature Destructo Disc technique by using his own spinning disk attack to deflect it. After defeating Krillin, Amond joins his fellow Corps members in a coordinated assault against Goku. However, Goku activates the Kaio-ken technique and goes on a rampage, overwhelming the entire group. Amond meets his end when Goku delivers a devastating knee strike to his stomach, a blow strong enough to kill him.
Amond's key relationships are primarily defined by his place within the Crusher Corps. He serves as Turles's trusted second-in-command and leads the other members in Turles's absence. He works alongside his comrades Daiz, Cacao, Rasin, and Lakasei as a cohesive unit, attacking enemies together and sharing the goal of consuming the Tree of Might's fruit. His relationship with the heroes of Earth is purely antagonistic, as he views them as obstacles to be eliminated.
In terms of development, Amond remains a static character throughout the film, appearing only as a henchman without an arc of his own. His background as an imprisoned criminal who joined Turles is provided as backstory but does not influence his actions within the narrative. Notably, this background information regarding his arrest by the Galactic Patrol and imprisonment on Planet Nutts was not presented within the film itself but was instead detailed in the film's theatrical brochure and supplementary materials.
Amond possesses several notable abilities that make him a formidable opponent. Like most warriors in the Dragon Ball series, he can fly using ki. His official power level is stated as 9,100 according to the Dragon Ball Carddass trading cards and the movie pamphlet for The Tree of Might. He can perform a technique called Planet Bomb, a powerful explosive wave unleashed by raising his right hand with two fingers extended, which he uses to disrupt a planet's geomagnetic field and clear land for planting the Tree of Might. His most distinctive technique involves spinning his body rapidly like a small tornado, during which he launches a razor-sharp energy disk capable of slicing through almost anything. He uses this ability to great effect against Krillin, deflecting the Destructo Disc with his own projectile. Amond has also consumed the Fruit of the Tree of Might prior to the events on Earth, which has augmented his already considerable power. Physically, his appearance is noted to resemble a combination of other Dragon Ball characters, with a hairstyle similar to Zarbon and a face and build reminiscent of Recoome.
