Description
Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, known as Wild Tiger, is a veteran superhero from Sternbild City. His Hundred Power NEXT ability grants him a hundredfold physical boost for five minutes, followed by a mandatory one-hour cooldown. This power first manifested at age ten during a bank robbery where Mr. Legend’s intervention inspired him toward heroism. In high school, Kotetsu’s undefeated fight record led to a clash with gang leader Antonio Lopez. When Antonio’s gang kidnapped classmate Tomoe, Kotetsu used his powers to rescue her, solidifying his commitment to protection and forging a lasting friendship-rivalry with Antonio, who adopted similar principles. Tomoe later became his wife; they had a daughter, Kaede. Tomoe passed away from illness five years before the main events, leaving Kotetsu a widower who continued wearing his wedding ring.
Sponsored initially by Top MaG, Kotetsu earned the public moniker "Crusher for Justice" due to frequent collateral damage. After Top MaG's closure, Apollon Media sponsored him and enforced a tag-team partnership with rookie Barnaby Brooks Jr. Their relationship grew contentious over conflicting methods: Kotetsu prioritized saving lives and instinctive action over ratings, while Barnaby emphasized strategy and sponsor obligations. Despite friction, Kotetsu demonstrated perceptiveness, deducing bomb locations and identifying antagonist Jake Martinez’s secondary power.
Ten months after a near-fatal confrontation with Martinez, Kotetsu’s powers began declining unexpectedly. Initially perceived as a temporary boost during a concert, subsequent activations fell short of the five-minute limit. Medical confirmation of power degeneration led him to consider retirement. Visiting his hometown family cemented his decision to resign; he withheld the true reason from Barnaby, causing temporary estrangement.
Framed as a criminal by Albert Maverick, Kotetsu was targeted by manipulated heroes. Confronting Maverick’s android H-01, he instructed Barnaby to fire at both, expecting Hundred Power to absorb the blast. His powers expired prematurely, causing severe injuries and apparent death. He survived unconsciousness and rejoined the fight to protect Kaede when Maverick took her hostage.
Publicly acknowledging his fading powers afterward, Kotetsu chose to remain a hero, fulfilling a promise to his late wife. He joined the Second League to train new heroes alongside Barnaby. Corporate restructuring under CEO Mark Schneider dissolved the Second League, demoting Kotetsu to non-hero status while Barnaby returned to the First League with new partner Golden Ryan. Kotetsu’s powers deteriorated further, lasting only one minute before vanishing entirely by the series’ conclusion, prompting permanent retirement from active duty.
Personality-wise, Kotetsu embodies a traditional heroic ethos focused on civilian protection and justice, often clashing with corporate directives. He maintains optimism despite setbacks and personal loneliness, masking inner turmoil with goofy or klutzy behavior. He mentors younger heroes with genuine support. His dedication strained his relationship with Kaede initially, though she later respected his choices after learning his secret identity. He remains oblivious to romantic attention, like Blue Rose’s crush. Key traits include self-sacrifice, instinct-driven problem-solving, and unwavering loyalty to allies, particularly Barnaby.
