Akira Madō is a former Ghoul Investigator who serves as a central figure within the Commission of Counter Ghoul. She is the daughter of Kureo and Kasuka Mado, both of whom were killed by ghouls: her mother by the One-Eyed Owl, and her father by ghouls including Touka Kirishima and Hinami Fueguchi. These losses drive her early career, as she graduates at the top of her class from the Ghoul Investigator Academy and initially works under Kishou Arima before being partnered with Koutarou Amon. Standing 164 centimeters tall with blonde hair and purple eyes, Akira is known for her professional, serious demeanor and sharp intelligence. She values efficiency, even refusing to use honorifics with colleagues, and shares her father’s fascination with quinques, though her interest is more controlled and pragmatic. Beneath her stoic exterior, she harbors deep emotions and vulnerability, especially when intoxicated. Over time, she becomes the mentor of Haise Sasaki, developing a complex, almost maternal bond with him. Her key relationships include a rivalry with Seidou Takizawa, a deep romantic connection with Amon, and a fraught history with Hinami Fueguchi. As an investigator, she wields unique quinques such as Amatsu, a hybrid weapon combining a koukaku blade and bikaku whip, as well as the Fueguchi I and Fueguchi II. Throughout her journey, her rigid, revenge-driven worldview expands as she confronts the humanity within ghouls and begins to question the absolutes of her mission, ultimately seeking a path toward coexistence between humans and ghouls.
