Description
Jun Aoi serves as a supporting character in the film Martian Successor Nadesico: The Motion Picture - Prince of Darkness. By the time of the movie, which takes place three years after the events of the television series, Jun has achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United Earth Federal Forces. He holds the position of captain of the battleship Amarillis, which is part of the Third Fleet, and his duties include the protection of space colonies.

In terms of personality, Jun remains a dedicated and by-the-book military officer. He is known for being a stickler for rules and regulations, as well as for his tendency to state the obvious. His demeanor is generally serious and straightforward. A long-standing and defining aspect of his character is his deep, unrequited love for Yurika Misumaru, a childhood friend he has known since her family moved from Mars to Earth ten years prior to the Jovian War. This devotion was so strong that it previously led him to give up a more promising military career to serve alongside her as the executive officer of the Nadesico. In the movie, while he has become a captain in his own right, this core aspect of his personality continues to inform his actions, with his superior officer being Admiral Misumaru, Yurika's father.

Jun's role in the story of Prince of Darkness is that of a competent and loyal military commander. He is one of the witnesses to the sudden appearance of a mysterious new mobile weapon near the satellite Shirahime. Throughout the film, he continues to be portrayed as a fundamentally good and reliable person. However, he also finds himself in a new, somewhat troublesome dynamic with a young woman named Yukina Shiratori, who has become infatuated with him and is shown to give him a difficult time. This creates a parallel to his own past pining for Yurika. Regarding his key relationships, his longstanding feelings for Yurika remain an important part of his background. In the movie, his life is further complicated by Yukina's aggressive affections, which he endures due to his inherently kind and passive nature.

Jun has undergone development from the television series to the film, having achieved a significant promotion and his own command, indicating that his military career has advanced successfully. However, his personal struggles with unrequited or complicated romantic interests persist. Among his notable abilities, Jun is a trained Aestivalis pilot, though he is not typically depicted as an exceptional frontline fighter. His true strengths lie in his skills as an organizer and a stable, by-the-book military officer, which served him well as an executive officer and have allowed him to rise to the rank of ship captain.
