Description
Gawain, known as the Knight of the Sun, is a Saber-class Servant who serves Leonardo B. Harwey in the Holy Grail War of the Moon Cell. He is a tall, handsome young man with wavy blond hair and aqua eyes, clad in distinctive pure white silver armor. His true identity is Sir Gawain of the Knights of the Round Table, the nephew of King Arthur and a knight who was once considered the ideal of chivalry.
During his life, Gawain was a paragon of knightly virtue, known for never insulting an opponent and treating even the weak with courtesy. However, he was deeply flawed by his hatred for Sir Lancelot, who killed Gawain’s brothers. This grudge led Gawain to prevent Lancelot from aiding King Arthur in the fateful Battle of Camlann, a decision that contributed to the king’s death. As he lay dying, Gawain swore that if given another chance, he would devote himself entirely to serving his king without question or personal conflict.
This regret defines his existence as a Servant. Gawain is defined by absolute and unwavering loyalty, having sworn to become a perfect knight who serves his master as a sword without personal ambition. He is a man of high character, treating everyone with politeness and sincerity, and possesses a refreshing, if sometimes inflexible, earnestness. He is not merely a blind follower; he believes his role is to support a true king, understanding that to become complete, a ruler must eventually experience defeat. He chooses to wait silently for this day, serving as a cornerstone for his master.
In Fate/Extra Last Encore, Gawain has guarded the seventh floor of the Moon Cell alongside Leo for an immensely long time. After Leo was defeated by a previous Hakuno Kishinami and then rescued by the rogue NPC Twice H. Pieceman, Leo was convinced to guard the final floor for nearly a thousand years. Eventually, Leo fell into a deep slumber, leaving Gawain alone to stand vigil. By the time the protagonist arrives, Gawain has physically deteriorated, bearing a visible wound on his chest, and compares himself to a sword left to rust. While he remains loyal to Leo, he has come to have doubts about Twice's ideology of erasing human history. He ultimately decides to guide the protagonist to his master, hoping they might offer a different path for humanity.
Gawain’s primary relationship is with his master, Leonardo Harwey. He serves Leo with the same dedication he wished he had shown King Arthur, acting as a wise and protective older figure who watches over Leo’s growth. He respects his master's rival, Julius Belkis Harwey, seeing a resemblance to the troubled knight Lancelot. He harbors immense regret for his failures toward his original king, which fuels his current devotion.
Gawain possesses the Noble Phantasm Excalibur Galatine, the sister sword to King Arthur’s Excalibur. It is a holy sword of the sun that unleashes its power as scorching heat, functioning as a wide-range anti-army weapon that burns everything in its path. His most famous personal skill is Numeral of the Saints, a unique constitution that triples his strength during the three hours before noon and the three hours after noon. This makes him virtually invincible during daylight hours, a condition that is absolute in his combat style.
