Description
Arisu Kamiigusa is a main character from the anime series Anime-Gataris. She is a first-year student at Sakaneko Private High School and comes from an exceptionally wealthy and influential family, with one of her parents serving as the president of a major international trading company. Physically, Arisu is recognized by her waist-length golden-orange hair, which she typically ties into a half-ponytail with a large red and white bow, and her blue eyes. At school, she wears the standard uniform but distinguishes herself by opting for a white cravat instead of the usual ribbon.
Arisu initially presents a poised and elegant demeanor that radiates an air of good upbringing, often causing other students to keep their distance. This exterior, however, hides a secret: she is a genuine otaku with a deep passion for anime, particularly enjoying moe characters. Her love for the medium is so strong that it becomes the primary catalyst for the story. After overhearing her classmate Minoa Asagaya talking about a forgotten anime from her childhood, Arisu overcomes her solitude and invites Minoa to help revive the school's defunct Anime Research Club, hoping to find people with whom she can share her hobby.
Personality-wise, Arisu is a driven idealist whose most defining and comedic trait is her unwavering belief that money can solve any problem. She frequently attempts to resolve dilemmas by flashing her wealth, a habit that serves as a recurring gag but also demonstrates her unconventional thinking. This trait often positions her as a catalyst for the plot, pushing the club toward ambitious goals such as creating their own anime from scratch when faced with closure from the student council. While she can appear domineering and self-confident, this behavior masks a deep-seated loneliness, and her involvement in the club provides her with the genuine connections she has been missing.
Within the group, Arisu's relationships are central to her development. She shares a close bond with the more pragmatic club president, Erika Aoyama, with the two balancing each other's idealistic and practical tendencies. Her relationship with fellow club member Miko Kouenji initially begins with conflict, as Arisu dismisses light novels as secondary to their anime adaptations, but the two eventually grow to respect each other after working together to create an anime. Perhaps her most unique relationship is with her stoic and ever-present butler, Sebas. The pair form an iconic comedic duo; with a snap of her fingers, Sebas appears to carry out her whims, acting as an extension of her will and enabling her more outlandish schemes.
Over the course of the series, Arisu develops significantly. She evolves from a sheltered and solitary rich girl into a more open and collaborative friend. Her journey in the Anime Research Club teaches her the value of teamwork and the effort required to create something, moving her beyond simply throwing money at problems to truly understanding and supporting her friends' passions. While she lacks supernatural or combat-oriented abilities, her notable skills include her vast wealth and her talent for acting as a supporting character who brings out the development in others, using her passion for anime as a bridge to connect with people and inspire them to pursue ambitious dreams.
