Description
Gordon Agrippa is a member of the Black Bull squad of the Magic Knights in the Clover Kingdom. He is a tall, slender young man with pale skin, short black hair slicked back, and distinctive red eyes. His most striking features are his gothic style, which includes large circles of black eyeshadow, black lipstick, and black nail polish. He typically wears a dark grey uniform with red trim, knee-high black boots, and the Black Bull’s signature robe over his shoulders, often accompanied by a dark grey peaked cap with the squad’s badge.

Gordon’s most defining characteristic is his personality. He is an extremely introverted and shy individual who is constantly mumbling to himself in a voice so low that others cannot understand him. This makes communication with his squadmates nearly impossible, and he is often overlooked or left out of conversations. Despite his gloomy and intimidating appearance, Gordon is incredibly kind-hearted and friendly. He deeply desires friendship and wishes to bond with the other members of the Black Bulls, but his poor communication skills and frightening demeanor create a barrier that he struggles to overcome. He has a habit of making positive or reassuring comments that go unheard due to his muttering. To express his affection for his comrades, he crafts homemade dolls in their likenesses, though the dolls are often perceived as creepy rather than endearing. He dislikes being in direct sunlight, which sometimes prevents him from joining outdoor missions.

Gordon comes from the Agrippa family, a noble house infamous for its expertise in curses and hex magic. The family has historically been feared and ostracized by society, and Gordon experienced a lonely childhood without friends as a direct result of his family’s sinister reputation and his own frightening magical abilities. This isolation is what primarily drives his motivation to connect with others and be a valued member of his squad. His personal journey is heavily tied to his family legacy; he initially ran away from home to join the Black Bulls, believing his family used their curse magic only to torment people. However, he later discovers that his father, Nathan, has reformed the family’s practices, using their deep knowledge of poisons and curses for healing and medical purposes. This revelation allows Gordon to reconcile with his past and embrace his heritage to help his friends.

In the story, Gordon’s role is often that of a background supporter, though he becomes increasingly important as the narrative focuses on curses. He is present for the Magic Knights entrance exam where Asta joins the squad. He is notably left behind from the mission to the Seabed Temple, after which he is seen sulking in a corner because he was excluded. A significant event occurs when the Black Bulls’ hideout is attacked by enemies; Gordon defends his home alongside Gauche and Grey, using his poison magic to destroy a reinforced corpse and refusing to give up because of what the squad means to him.

Key relationships include his fellow Black Bulls, particularly Gauche Adlai and Grey, with whom he often finds himself working. He also forms a meaningful bond with Henry, another reclusive member of the squad, whom Gordon declares a friend after they fight together. The entire Black Bulls squad becomes the family he always wanted, and he is fiercely loyal to them. Another crucial relationship is with his father, Nathan. After the battle with the demon Zagred, Gordon returns home to seek his father’s help in lifting a curse from Asta. Through this, he learns the truth about his family’s healing mission and decides to stay and train to master curse magic properly.

Gordon experiences significant development over the course of the series. He transforms from a lonely, overlooked figure into a confident mage who plays a pivotal role in major battles. After training with his family for six months, he learns to convert curses into power, a skill that proves invaluable during the war against the Spade Kingdom. He is able to modify the curse of his comrade Henry, allowing Henry to selectively absorb magic from an enemy rather than his allies, turning a debilitating condition into a tactical advantage.

Gordon is a powerful support mage with specialized abilities. His primary magic is Poison Magic, which allows him to generate and manipulate various forms of poison, from liquid to gas. Because of his family lineage, he is also an expert in Hex Magic, also known as Curse Magic, which he uses to add additional debilitating effects to his spells or to manipulate curses themselves. His notable spells include Forbidden Fruit (Verbotener Obst), a cannon of concentrated liquid poison; Violet Umbrella (Violet Schirm), a defensive poison barrier; and Waking Bear's Den (Aufwachend Dachs), which creates poison badgers that can chew through reinforced enemies. After his training, he develops Modified Poison Curse Magic techniques like Curse Neighbor, which allows him to control the curse power of a person he touches, demonstrating his evolution from a simple poison user to a master of curses capable of both affliction and restoration.
