Description
Catherine is a rogue mage who serves as a member of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, a terrorist organization. She originally comes from the Witches' Forest, establishing her background as a witch before she left to join the group. Her physical appearance is that of a woman with long, curly, light-colored hair, light eyes framed by thick dark eyelashes, and dark red-violet lipstick. She typically wears a black dress with a furry skirt and collar, a black hat with a furry brim and a long conical crown, and a golden necklace featuring a star-like pendant. However, this youthful appearance is maintained through her magical ability to absorb mana. When she loses almost all of her mana, her true form is revealed: that of an elderly woman with wrinkled, malnourished features, gray hair, and a severe loss of muscle tone.

Catherine's personality is defined by her extreme narcissism and deep concern for her own appearance. She is highly sensitive to the opinions of others and reacts with immediate hostility to any perceived insult about how she looks. This is demonstrated when she shifts from a seductive demeanor to that of a merciless witch after Yuno makes a remark about her appearance. Despite her vain and volatile nature, she displays fierce loyalty to the Eye of the Midnight Sun and its leader, Licht, refusing to willingly provide any information about the group's plans even when captured and interrogated. Her motivations center on maintaining her youthful beauty and serving the goals of her organization. During the attack on the Royal Capital, she reveals that her mission was to assassinate a specific target, though she does not disclose further details.

In the story, Catherine plays the role of an antagonist faced primarily by the magic knight Yuno. During the invasion of the capital, she appears before citizens and begins forcibly absorbing their mana, causing many to lose consciousness. Yuno escapes the spatial magic that separated the knights and confronts her. While initially attracted to Yuno, she becomes enraged by his comments and engages him in battle. Her Curse Magic proves challenging as it deteriorates his senses, but Yuno ultimately defeats her by summoning the wind spirit Sylph and unleashing a devastating attack. After being thrown into a tower, Catherine attempts to steal mana from the people inside but is instead attacked and knocked unconscious by Charmy Pappitson, who mistakes her intentions as an attempt to steal food.

Following her defeat, she is restrained and taken for interrogation by Marx Francois, the Magic Emperor's aide. Attempts to extract information from her mind fail due to a protection spell placed on her. She defiantly declares that even without the spell, she would not cooperate. This spell is later undone when Asta uses his anti-magic sword on her, allowing Marx to force her to reveal information. Under this compulsion, she identifies the captain of the Violet Orca, Gueldre Poizot, as the traitor within the Magic Knights. Her development concludes tragically when she is eventually used as a sacrifice by the leader Patri to activate a forbidden magic ritual, which requires a large amount of mana and a human victim, resulting in her death.

Catherine's key relationships are primarily adversarial. Her main opponent is Yuno Grinberryall, whom she fights during the capital invasion. She also has a brief but decisive encounter with Charmy Pappitson, who swiftly defeats her. Within the Eye of the Midnight Sun, she is loyal to the leadership but does not have significant personal connections shown. She is briefly allied with a fellow prisoner named Georg, with whom she is held and interrogated. Her notable abilities are centered on her unique magical skill set. She wields Ash Magic, which allows her to generate and manipulate ash. This is combined with Curse Magic, which she uses to deteriorate an opponent's senses, rendering them blind, deaf, and numb. Her most distinctive power is Mana Absorption, the ability to forcefully take mana directly from other people. The stolen mana becomes her own, which she uses to cast spells and, crucially, to sustain her youthful appearance. If she loses this stolen mana, her body reverts to its true aged state. Like other members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, she possesses a large mana pool and uses a standard magic broom for transportation. Her grimoire, which contains her ash-based spells, has a purple cover with a three-leaf clover insignia.
