Description
Michie Matsumoto is a supporting character in Sound! Euphonium 2. She serves as the assistant band director of the Kitauji High School concert band, a role described on the official site as an external director, and she specializes in percussion instruments. She is also a teacher at the school and is the homeroom instructor for Kumiko Oumae, Sapphire Kawashima, and Hazuki Katou. Michie Matsumoto is friends with Noboru Taki from their college days, and the two work closely together to guide the band.

Her personality is marked by strong directing and communication skills, and she is frequently seen wearing gaudy, colorful shirts, which reflect her confident and slightly unconventional style. She is attentive and perceptive toward her students, offering them advice on academics, career paths, and personal challenges, and she cheers them on through difficult times. Her motivations center on helping the band improve its performance and supporting her students’ growth both as musicians and individuals.

In the story, she interacts regularly with the main characters as their teacher and as a band advisor, contributing to rehearsals and offering guidance to the ensemble. Her relationship with Taki provides additional background and stability to the band’s leadership. While she is not a central figure in the second season, her role becomes more prominent in later installments, particularly as the homeroom teacher for Kumiko’s third-year class. Notable abilities include her expertise in percussion, her strong communication skills, and her capacity to coordinate effectively with the band and its members.
