Description
Okuyasu Nijimura is a central ally in the fourth part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Diamond Is Unbreakable. He is introduced as a minor antagonist before quickly allying himself with Josuke Higashikata, eventually becoming Josuke's closest friend and a key member of the group that investigates the strange events occurring in the town of Morioh. Okuyasu is the younger of the two Nijimura brothers. Their father, after the death of his wife, fell into despair and used a Stone Mask, which transformed him into a half-vampire. Kept locked away in a coffin in the family basement, the father ordered his sons to find a Stand with a healing ability that could end his endless half-dead existence. Following that order, Okuyasu's older brother Keicho used the Stand Arrow to strike numerous residents of Morioh, hoping to awaken a Stand user whose power might cure their father. Okuyasu initially behaves with hostility toward Josuke, but after the Nijimura family situation is resolved, he chooses to side with Josuke and fully commits himself to helping him.
In terms of personality, Okuyasu is impulsive, hot-tempered, extroverted, and somewhat childish, acting on his emotions and jumping into situations quickly. He is aware that he is not especially intelligent, and his limited tactical thinking frequently prevents him from making full use of his Stand's power in battle. Despite his rough and aggressive exterior, he is loyal, well-meaning, positive, and genuinely caring toward the people close to him. He admires and respects his older brother Keicho, and after Keicho is killed by Akira Otoishi, Okuyasu experiences deep grief and a desire for vengeance. The later murder of his friend Shigekiyo Yangu at the hands of Yoshikage Kira further strengthens his resolve to stop the killer.
Okuyasu serves as one of the main supporting characters of the story, acting as the reliable close-range combatant of the Morioh group. He participates in several significant conflicts, including the confrontations with Akira Otoishi and his Stand Red Hot Chili Pepper, the events surrounding the Cinderella beauty salon, and the final battle against Yoshikage Kira at the Kawajiri house. His key relationships shape much of his role in the narrative. Josuke is his best friend and constant partner, Koichi Hirose is a close ally, and Jotaro Kujo acts as a mentor figure to the younger Stand users. The ability is absolute in its effect, but it is limited by The Hand's short reach and by Okuyasu's own modest strategic sense, and his frequent failure to fully exploit the Stand's frightening potential is a defining characteristic of his role in battle.
