Description
Mari Kurokawa is a Sergeant First Class in the Japan Self-Defense Forces and serves as the medic for Yōji Itami’s Third Recon Team. She is a tall woman with black hair and blue eyes, and she possesses a nursing qualification which she puts to use in the field, prioritizing rescue and medical support over direct combat. Her personality is generally calm, reserved, and ladylike, but she can become sharp-tongued or verbally harsh when the situation provokes her. She is earnest and considerate, driven by a strong idealistic desire to help people who are in immediate distress. This idealism sometimes leads her to make proposals without fully considering the practical consequences, resulting in her suggestions being rejected as unworkable by Itami. She cares deeply for the safety of both her squadmates and civilians, exhibiting a motherly attitude toward those under her care. As a supporting member of the Third Recon Team, she accompanies the unit into the Special Region and handles medical duties during their missions. Her key relationships are with the other members of the team, particularly Itami, whose pragmatic leadership occasionally checks her more impulsive idealistic suggestions. Her development within the story remains limited, as she is not a central protagonist, but her consistent reliability and her willingness to speak her mind when frustrated define her role. Her notable abilities include her medical training and her nursing license, which make her the team’s primary field medic, as well as her physical stature, which allows her to keep pace with her male counterparts in the field.
