Description
Anett Hosenfeld is a pilot serving as a Leutnant, or Second Lieutenant, in the East German National People's Army. She is assigned to the 666th TSF Squadron, known as Schwarzesmarken, where her personal call sign is Schwarzesmarken 06. Her primary Tactical Surface Fighter, or TSF, is the MiG-21 Balalaika. Physically, she is noted to be of a smaller stature and possesses a strong, athletic build, having trained in kendo from a young age at her parents' suggestion.

Initially described as having a cheerful and lively personality, Anett's character is largely defined by the severe psychological trauma she endures. During her first deployment, her three best friends were killed in action within a span of only three days. This event caused her to develop post-traumatic stress disorder, which manifests as intense emotional instability and a tendency to act recklessly in combat. For instance, she has been known to fire indiscriminately at already destroyed BETA, disregarding ammunition conservation and the safety of her squadron mates. A notable personal habit is screaming loudly before going into battle, a method she uses to try and shake off her overwhelming fear of death.

Her primary personal motivation is a deep-seated desire for vengeance against the BETA, the alien creatures humanity is fighting, which she believes will avenge her fallen friends. This trauma also fuels her central interpersonal conflict. She harbors a strong and open resentment toward her fellow pilot, Theodor Eberbach, whom she blames for abandoning her and her friends during the battle that killed them, leaving them to die. This creates a tense and confrontational dynamic between them, though some sources note that her behavior toward him has characteristics of a tsundere, suggesting a more complex emotional core beneath her hostility. Conversely, she forms a strong and protective bond with Katia Waldheim, a defecting West German pilot who joins the squadron. Anett sees echoes of her lost friend Inghild in Katia and becomes one of her most caring and supportive comrades.

Within the 666th Squadron, Anett holds a unique tactical role as the only pilot who specializes in using a close-combat blade, specifically the Type-77 long blade. This proficiency in melee combat is a direct result of her childhood kendo training, which not only gave her the necessary technical skills but was also said to have strengthened her heart and resolve. Her close-combat abilities are a notable asset to the squadron in their engagements against the BETA.

Throughout the story, Anett's arc involves a gradual struggle to overcome her shell shock and grief in order to become an effective soldier once more. She is depicted as a very emotional and principled individual, which puts her on the radar of the secret police, the Stasi. Her development is also shown through her changing relationships, particularly her initial hatred of West German forces, exemplified by a rivalry with pilot Kirke Steinhoff, which eventually softens over time. Following the main events of the story, Anett is promoted to the rank of Captain.
