TV-Series
Description
Hiroto Maehara is a student of Kunugigaoka Junior High School, placed in the academically marginalized Class 3-E. Physically, he is a young man of above-average height for his age, with a lean and athletic build. His most distinctive features are his wavy, medium-length hair, which is a blend of orange and blond, and his light brown eyes. He is consistently noted by his peers to be very handsome and good-looking, a factor that contributes significantly to his popularity despite his placement in the end class.

His personality is defined by a charismatic and outgoing nature, though this is complicated by a well-known reputation as a playboy. Maehara lives with a "seize the moment" attitude, approaching life with a relaxed and unbothered demeanor. This was exemplified when he was not overly distressed by being publicly dumped, accepting the situation with unusual calm. However, this carefree exterior masks a fundamentally caring and principled individual. He is not the type to pick on someone weaker than himself and has a strong, honest streak, often reacting with genuine emotion to events around him. Following a personal betrayal, he questioned his own capacity for cruelty and concluded that he would never look down on those weaker than himself, reinforcing his underlying sense of fairness. His classmates note that he is mature for his age, accepting his demotion to Class 3-E with a sober and pragmatic outlook rather than despair or indignation.

Maehara's primary motivation is less about grand, overarching goals and more about living an enjoyable and socially successful life. His dream is to have a job that is popular, and his hobbies include football and flirting. Despite his playboy tendencies, which lead him to pursue multiple romantic interests simultaneously, he is not malicious. His actions are often driven by a desire for social connection and validation. In the context of the class's primary mission to assassinate their teacher, Koro-sensei, Maehara is a highly motivated and active participant, consistently applying himself to the task with enthusiasm and skill.

Within the story, Maehara serves as a key supporting member of Class 3-E, often acting as a close ally to the class president. His role is frequently that of a capable and reliable executor of plans, particularly those requiring physical agility and knife skills. He is part of the class's vanguard, known for his excellent teamwork and reflexes. His personal story arc often revolves around his romantic entanglements and his growth from a shallow womanizer into someone capable of a more genuine emotional connection. A significant early plot point involves his relationship with Kaho Tsuchiya, a girl from the main campus who dumps him and joins in bullying him after he is placed in Class 3-E. With the support of his classmates, he orchestrates a non-violent revenge, which helps him recover from the betrayal and reaffirms his trust in his new friends.

His most important relationship is with Yuma Isogai, his best friend since elementary school. They are nearly inseparable, and Isogai is the only person who knows the full extent of Maehara's dating history. Their trust and cooperation are absolute, making their teamwork during assassination training exercises exceptional. Regarding his romantic life, he famously attempted to flirt with every girl in Class 3-E and was rejected by all of them, with the sole exception of Meg Kataoka, whom he avoided out of respect for his friendship with Isogai. Over time, he develops a genuine interest in his classmate Hinata Okano. Their relationship is initially rocky, especially after he uses her Valentine's Day chocolate scheme for an assassination plot without her consent, angering her. However, his sincere efforts to make amends lead to a reconciliation, and it is implied his feelings for her become more serious.

Throughout the series, Maehara shows clear development. He begins as a stereotypical, somewhat shallow ladies' man, but experiences in Class 3-E teach him about genuine friendship, betrayal, and the value of looking beyond superficial qualities. His growth is moderate but meaningful; he never fully abandons his flirtatious nature, but he learns to form a deeper bond with Okano, suggesting a move away from his purely polyamorous tendencies.

In terms of abilities, Maehara is one of the most physically gifted students in Class 3-E. He is an expert in knifework, ranking second among the boys and second overall in the class during the first semester. By the second semester, his skills improve to the point where he becomes the top-ranked student in knifework, both among boys and overall. He is also considered one of the four most agile members of the class, praised for his mobility, which he retains from his time as a member of the school's soccer club before being demoted. While proficient with firearms, he personally finds them troublesome and prefers the directness of a knife. His academic performance is respectable but unremarkable; his best subject is mathematics, while his weakest is social studies. His academic rankings show a steady improvement, moving from 137th place in the first term midterms to 41st place by the second term finals. His quick thinking and physical prowess make him a valuable asset in the class's numerous assassination attempts.
