Description
Ayato Sakamaki is a vampire and a main character, known as the fifth son of the Sakamaki household. He is one of the triplet sons of Cordelia, the daughter of a Demon Lord, and Karlheinz, the Vampire King. Ayato is 174 centimeters tall and weighs 62 kilograms, with a birthday on March 22nd. He is a high school student attending Ryoutei Academy.
Ayato possesses a strikingly arrogant and narcissistic personality, almost always referring to himself with the royal "ore-sama". He is an energetic troublemaker with a mischievous and sadistic streak, finding amusement in bullying and playing pranks on others. Ayato has a particular passion for sports, especially basketball, but conversely despises studying and performs poorly in his classes. He has a notable fondness for the food takoyaki and a peculiar fascination with torture devices, keeping an iron maiden in his room which he uses as a bed after removing the spikes. He is highly possessive and dominant, especially towards the female protagonist, Yui Komori, whom he nicknames "Chichinashi," meaning "flat-chested".
His abrasive and egotistical demeanor is a direct consequence of a deeply troubled childhood. Cordelia, his mother, did not provide love or affection but instead treated him as a tool to win the favor of his father, Karlheinz. She subjected him to severe physical and mental abuse, with one notable instance involving her slapping him and then throwing him into a fountain to punish him, during which he nearly drowned. This upbringing instilled in him a belief that one must be the best and never fail in order to be loved, driving his obsession with power and being number one. His hatred for his mother eventually culminated in him killing her by draining all of her blood.
Ayato's primary motivation is to become the strongest vampire, even surpassing his father to take the throne. This desire is fueled by his traumatic past and his mother's failed ambition. Within the story, his role is central as one of the primary vampire brothers who torments and interacts with the human heroine, Yui. His relationship with Yui is complex; initially, he views her simply as a source of blood and a plaything for his amusement. However, as the narrative progresses, his possessive nature evolves into genuine, albeit still domineering, affection and care for her, though he struggles to express these feelings openly.
His key relationships are defined by rivalry and conflict. He frequently clashes with his brothers, often insulting them, such as calling Kanato a "hysteric" and Reiji a "tableware otaku". He views his brothers, particularly Laito, as rivals who might try to take Yui away from him. His relationship with his mother, Cordelia, is one of pure hatred and resentment. After her death, her heart is transplanted into Yui, creating a complicated link where Yui's blood tastes similar to his mother's, which both attracts and repulses him.
Ayato possesses the standard abilities of a pure-blooded vampire, including superhuman strength, speed, enhanced senses, and rapid healing. His healing saliva is also a notable trait. By drinking Yui's blood, his powers become even stronger and more developed, granting him additional abilities such as teleportation and the power to push people away from a distance without much effort. He also demonstrates talent in swordsmanship and can fly during a full moon. While he shows little care for academics, he is a capable dancer and is even proficient at rapping.
