TV-Series
Description
Ako Tamaki, often called Ako, is the female protagonist of her story, a high school girl whose life has become deeply intertwined with the world of online gaming. She is a petite girl with a short stature, long black hair, and blue eyes. Her real-life appearance is notably very similar to her in-game avatar. Despite her shy and quiet demeanor at school, she has a noticeable figure that is sometimes described as "squishy" or voluptuous.
Ako’s background is marked by profound social isolation. Before the events of the story, she was an introverted student who frequently missed school and had no friends in the real world. This loneliness drove her to seek connection in the online role-playing game "Legacy Alive" (LA). In the game, she plays as a Cleric, a healer class, and goes by the username "Ako". It is within this virtual space that she met and eventually married another player, Lucian, whose real-world identity is Hideki Nishimura.
Ako’s central and most defining characteristic is her inability to distinguish between the game and reality. She genuinely believes that because her character is married to Lucian in the game, she is married to Hideki in real life. This belief shapes her entire personality and motivations. Her deep love for Hideki is not a simple crush; it stems from a history of being abandoned by other players who grew tired of her mistakes and lack of skill. Hideki, however, consistently stayed by her side, making him the first person to offer her a sense of belonging and stability.
Consequently, Ako is fiercely devoted to Hideki, showing him affection openly and becoming intensely jealous of any other girl who approaches him. Her love can manifest in extreme ways, including possessive and delusional behavior, which has led to her being classified as a yandere archetype. For example, she once confronted another girl with a fake knife, believing the girl had broken Hideki's heart in the past. Outside of her obsession with Hideki, Ako is generally negative and antisocial, often expressing resentment towards "normal" people or those she feels have a "promised future". She dislikes "normies" and prefers the company of fellow gamers, and her dream is to eventually stop attending school entirely and live as a housewife who can play games all day.
Despite her struggles with social interaction, Ako possesses a few notable domestic abilities. She is a good cook and occasionally prepares lunch for Hideki, and she is also skilled at knitting. This creates an interesting contrast with her reclusive nature. In the game, however, her abilities are quite poor. While she has been playing LA for a long time, her skill level is very low because her priorities lie entirely in aesthetics and socializing. She chooses equipment based on how pretty it looks rather than its defensive stats, which often results in her character dying quickly in combat. As a healer, she frequently misses her timing to heal her party members because she is too absorbed in chatting, sometimes leading to their in-game deaths. Her guildmates are so aware of her unreliability that they have adopted the habit of using potions to heal themselves rather than waiting for her support.
Within the story, Ako plays the role of the catalyst. Her extreme behavior forces the other characters, particularly Hideki, to confront the blurred line between online relationships and real-world feelings. Her key relationship is, of course, with Hideki Nishimura. He is the object of her affection and the one she refers to as her husband. While he is initially overwhelmed by her intensity, he learns to understand that her feelings are genuine, even if her way of expressing them is misguided. She is also a member of the online gaming club at her school, formed specifically to help her. Her relationships with her guildmates, including the guild master Akane and another member named Kyo, are those of found family. They care for her well-being and patiently work to help her integrate into society, even as her behavior often exasperates them.
Over the course of the narrative, Ako undergoes gradual but significant development. She begins as a girl who cannot separate two dimensions of her life, but through her interactions with Hideki and her new friends, she starts to question her own actions. When Hideki confesses to her and asks her to be his girlfriend in reality, she refuses at first, believing that "girlfriend" is a downgrade from being a "wife". This moment forces her and those around her to re-evaluate the nature of their relationship. She begins to worry if her extreme dependence makes her a nuisance, showing a growing self-awareness. Through the patience and support of the club, she slowly learns to build real-world connections and begins to differentiate her life from the game, ultimately working towards a more balanced and healthy relationship with Hideki.
