Description
Geese Howard is the primary antagonist of the Fatal Fury series and a central figure in the related Art of Fighting and The King of Fighters franchises, appearing as a major character in the anime adaptation Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf. He is the powerful and ruthless crime boss of the fictional American city of South Town, where he rules its underworld with an iron fist as the head of the Howard Connection syndicate.

The character's background is marked by a difficult childhood and a drive for power. He was born to a poor American mother and an Austrian father, who abandoned the family after Geese was born. Following his mother's death from illness and malnutrition, a young Geese tracked his father to Europe, only to be effortlessly defeated by his unknown half-brother, Wolfgang Krauser. This humiliation and the hardships of his early life forged an unyielding desire for strength and control, leading him to study martial arts. He became a student of the master Tung Fu Rue, learning the Hakkyokuseiken style alongside a fellow pupil named Jeff Bogard. However, the master recognized the darkness in Geese's heart and named Jeff as the successor to the school's secrets, an act that fueled a deep-seated grudge.

Geese Howard's personality is defined by immense pride, self-confidence, and a craving for power in all its forms, from political influence to immortality. He holds himself in high regard as a mighty warrior and rarely shows doubt in his abilities. Despite his criminal nature and ruthless methods, he adheres to a personal code of honor and never underestimates his opponents. His motivations are primarily self-serving, focused on eliminating rivals, expanding his control over South Town, and securing ancient artifacts or powers, such as the Sacred Scrolls of Jin, which are said to grant great power.

In the story of Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf, Geese's most infamous act is the murder of his former training partner, Jeff Bogard. He kills Jeff in front of his young sons, Terry and Andy, setting the central revenge plot of the series in motion. Geese creates and hosts the King of Fighters fighting tournament, partly to recruit new talent for his organization and to eliminate potential threats. Ten years after Jeff's death, Terry and Andy enter this tournament to confront him. His key relationships are defined by conflict and control. He is the archenemy of Terry Bogard. He employs Billy Kane as his fiercely loyal right-hand man and personal bodyguard. He also has a son, Rock Howard, though he maintains a distant and complex relationship with him, outwardly showing disappointment while secretly not wishing for him to inherit his criminal empire. His rivalry with his powerful half-brother, Wolfgang Krauser, is another significant aspect of his history.

Geese's development follows a classic rise-and-fall arc. After building his criminal empire, he is eventually confronted by Terry atop his own skyscraper, Geese Tower. In their final battle, Terry defeats him and knocks him from the building. In a defining moment, Terry catches Geese's hand to save him, but Geese, refusing the aid of his enemy, deliberately lets go and falls to his death. His legacy, however, endures, and in subsequent games he sometimes reappears in a spectral form known as Nightmare Geese.

Geese Howard is a notoriously formidable fighter, practicing a style described as ancient martial arts or Japanese martial arts, which incorporates Aiki-Jujutsu and chi techniques from the Hakkyokuseiken school. His notable abilities include powerful counter-attacks that can interrupt an opponent's strikes, as well as iconic special moves such as the Reppuken (a powerful energy wave) and the Shippuken. His most famous and devastating technique is the Raging Storm, or Deadly Rave, a powerful and protracted combo attack that creates a massive area-of-effect blast around him.
