Description
Panni is a character original to Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture and appears only in that film. She is a woman with pink hair who wears red armor, and she serves as one of the three retainers of Laocorn Gaudeamus, the movie's main antagonist, alongside her fellow servants Jamin and Hauer. Of the trio, each of whom commands a different elemental power, Panni wields water.
Panni comes from Rhodes Island, where she was a servant of the Gaudeamus family. When Laocorn set out to collect the six pieces of the Armor of Mars, she followed him along with Jamin and Hauer, even though she privately disagreed with the path her master was taking. The three helped Laocorn secure several armor pieces over the course of the story. They retrieved pieces together and later placed a mind-controlling mask on the martial artist Cheng Sinzan, using him to track down Laocorn's sister Sulia. Panni was also entrusted with recovering the breastplate of the armor from Stroheim Castle, where she defeated the warrior Laurence Blood and claimed the piece for Laocorn. Near the end of the film, after the only missing piece was identified as the mask, Laocorn sent his three servants to Jerusalem, the location of the final armor piece. There they ambushed Andy Bogard and Mai Shiranui. During the fight, Panni was defeated by Mai, who struck her with the Chou Hissatsu Shinobi-Bachi and knocked her unconscious. As she fell, Panni called out Laocorn's name, and her ultimate fate is never made clear.
In personality, Panni is extremely loyal to Laocorn and willing to carry out whatever he commands. Beneath this devotion, she secretly loves him and worries about what he may become as he gathers the Armor of Mars, fearing the effect the armor's power is having on him. When Laocorn ordered his retainers to kidnap Sulia, Jamin openly questioned whether he was doing the right thing; Panni appeared reluctant as well, but insisted that they should obey his orders. Her emotional attachment to Laocorn is the trait that most defines her, and it also serves as her chief vulnerability, since it compels her to follow him even when she doubts his course.
As a fighter, Panni relies on hydrokinesis, the ability to create and control water. She can suddenly appear from within a stream of water, fire small bullets of hardened water at her enemies, summon large bodies of water to release in powerful torrents, and create whirlpools around herself that deflect incoming attacks. Although she favors fighting at long range with these abilities, she is also an acrobatic combatant and can use hidden sharp nails to cut opponents at close quarters.
Her key relationships are with Laocorn, to whom she is devoted and secretly in love; with her fellow retainers Jamin and Hauer, with whom she serves the Gaudeamus family; and with the heroes she opposes, particularly Mai Shiranui, who ultimately defeats her. Her role in the story is that of an antagonist who obeys Laocorn out of loyalty and love while quietly doubting his mission, and her defeat ends her part in the conflict without resolving what becomes of her.
