Description
Hyoma is a recurring character from the Beyblade: Metal Fusion series. He is a tall, slim-built teenager with pale skin, bright blue eyes, and shaggy light violet hair. His typical outfit consists of a pink v-neck shirt with an orange collar, a blue-green jacket that is usually left unzipped, brown fingerless gloves, brown pants, and brown hiking boots.
Hyoma grew up with Gingka Hagane in the sacred town of Koma Village, where they frequently battled at a place called Green Hades. During those childhood matches, Hyoma was the one who consistently defeated Gingka, making him Gingka’s original rival. After Gingka left the village, Hyoma remained behind, taking on the role of its guardian. His primary responsibility is to protect the village from outsiders and ensure that anyone who seeks it out is trustworthy.
He possesses a zealous and serious personality, especially regarding his duties as a defender of Koma Village. He takes this role so seriously that he has no problem using deception or manipulation to protect his home. Hyoma is a skilled liar and very persuasive, acting as a formidable gatekeeper. When groups of Bladers come looking for Gingka, he often leads them in circles while putting on different fake personalities to test their intentions. He has been seen acting as an oddball to confuse people or adopting an insane persona during battles to motivate his opponent. Despite these deceptive tactics used to defend his home, Hyoma is later shown to be a soft-spoken and timid person who rarely shows emotion. He remains calm during most battles but displayed visible horror and nearly broke down during a match against the ruthless Blader, Reiji Mizuchi.
Hyoma’s primary motivation is to protect Koma Village and honor his connection to Gingka. He tests the worthiness of those who seek to enter the village, only allowing entry to those who demonstrate a true Blader’s spirit and prove they are friends of Gingka. His role in the story is that of a guardian and a measuring stick for other Bladers. He serves as an obstacle for Gingka’s friends when they first travel to Koma Village, and he continues to appear in various tournaments, such as the Survival Battle and the Battle Bladers qualifying rounds, as a capable competitor.
His most significant relationship is with his childhood friend, Gingka. Hyoma cares deeply for Gingka and is initially jealous of the new friends Gingka has made, but he ultimately accepts them and wishes for Gingka to continue growing stronger with their support. He also develops a rivalry with Kyoya Tategami, who is able to see through Hyoma’s deceptions and defeats him during the Survival Battle.
Throughout the series, Hyoma shows development as he transitions from an isolated guardian testing outsiders to a more collaborative ally. He enters major tournaments like Battle Bladers with the goal of earning a rematch against Gingka, showing his desire to reconnect with his past rival on more equal terms. His loss to Reiji Mizuchi, which results in severe damage to his Beyblade, represents a significant setback that tests his resolve.
As a Blader, Hyoma is a deceptive and strategic fighter who relies on reading his opponents and using the environment to his advantage. Having battled in forests his entire life, he is skilled at using natural arenas to his benefit. His Beyblade is Rock Aries ED145B, a Defense-type Beyblade. His known special moves include Sheep Horn Throw and Gone With the Wind. One of his key advantages is the Eternal Defense 145 (ED145) spin track, which provides a strong defensive capability.
