Description
Kaede Kaburagi is the daughter of the veteran superhero Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, also known as Wild Tiger. Born in Oriental Town, her early childhood was marked by tragedy when her mother, Tomoe, passed away from an illness when Kaede was only four years old. Following this loss, she went to live with her paternal grandmother, Anju, in her father's hometown, while Kotetsu continued his career as a hero in the distant, bustling city of Sternbild.

For much of her early life, Kaede was unaware of her father's dangerous double life as a superhero. She only knew that he had a demanding job that constantly broke his promises to visit or attend her school events, leading to feelings of disappointment and resentment. This absence cultivated a somewhat fragile side to her personality, as she deeply feared being abandoned by those she loved. Despite this, she is a friendly and energetic child with typically girly interests, such as figure skating, in which she competes, and collecting cute stuffed animals. She is also a massive fangirl of the hero Barnaby Brooks Jr., a fact that is a constant source of exasperation for her father.

As the story progresses into the film The Rising, Kaede's understanding of her father has matured significantly. Having learned that he is the hero Wild Tiger, her previous frustration has mellowed into deep pride and respect. She comes to accept that his heroic responsibilities are a crucial part of who he is. In fact, after Kotetsu temporarily retires and becomes a lethargic presence around the house, it is Kaede who pushes him to return to hero work, telling him he has become uncool by giving it up. This demonstrates her growth into a compassionate and insightful young girl who wants her father to be happy and true to himself.

In the story, Kaede plays a pivotal role beyond being a source of emotional support. She is a NEXT, a person who possesses superhuman abilities, and her specific power is uniquely potent. Known as Ability Duplication, Kaede's power allows her to copy the NEXT ability of anyone she makes physical contact with. This is an involuntary process; the moment another NEXT touches her, their power overwrites whatever ability she currently has. While this makes her abilities unpredictable, it also makes her incredibly versatile. Her power proves crucial during a city-wide crisis, where she inadvertently copies the memory-manipulation powers of the antagonist Albert Maverick, using them to restore the altered memories of other heroes. In another instance, after being captured, she copies Blue Rose's ice manipulation to freeze her captors and facilitate a rescue.

Her key relationships are central to her development. The bond with her father is the most significant, evolving from one of disappointment to mutual respect and love. She also shares a close relationship with her grandmother, Anju, who raised her. Her admiration for Barnaby Brooks Jr. also evolves, as he becomes a trusted ally and a quasi-fatherly figure in her life. By the time of The Rising, Kaede has demonstrated not only a powerful and unique set of abilities but also a courageous and determined spirit, willing to stand up for her family and do what is right.
