Description
Marie Claire is a mysterious young girl with a petite stature, standing 145 centimeters and weighing 34 kilograms. She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and her birthplace is Ota-ku, Tokyo. She was born on December 24 and is 16 years old with blood type B. Her nationality is American.
Her background is rooted in trauma. As a middle school student at the Rosenkreuz Academy, she was subjected to scientific experiments because of her bizarre ESP-like powers, which manifested as pyrokinesis. In a flashback during the second season, she caused the school's science wing to explode and escaped into a snowstorm. She was subsequently rescued by Munetaka Yagyuu, the man who would become her master. In the original manga source material, however, she escapes on her own and befriends Tatsuma Hiyuu on the streets, with the Magami teenagers helping her thwart the scientists.
In the anime adaptation, Marie Claire works for Yagyuu, creating chaos by disrupting the Dragon Stream alongside Tendou Kodzunu. She is always by Kodzunu's side, carrying a black cat named Mephisto, but her true purpose is to observe Kodzunu and act as a messenger for Yagyuu. She is deeply devoted to Yagyuu and becomes easily angered when he is insulted. Her personality is short-tempered and childlike. When enraged, her eyes bulge, the bolts embedded in her body unscrew, greenish fluid seeps from her, and her face contorts before she releases a devastating blast of fire that destroys her surroundings.
Her core motivation stems from her loyalty to Yagyuu, whom she sees as her rescuer. She follows his orders without question, causing destruction to serve his goals. As the story progresses, her true role is unveiled: she is the Vessel of Suzaku, the Vermillion Bird, and one of the Four Gods destined to protect Tatsuma Hiyuu. This revelation explains the origin of her pyrokinesis. In the manga, she develops a crush on Tatsuma and becomes like a little sister to Aoi Misato, showing a shy and loving side that contrasts with her anime portrayal.
Her primary ability is fire manipulation, which she can project as powerful blasts. When her emotions spike, especially anger, her power becomes uncontrollable and devastating. As a descendant of the character Honoka from the prequel game, her lineage ties her to the larger mythological framework of the story. Throughout the series, her past trauma and loyalty are challenged, and her identity as a guardian of Tatsuma comes to define her growth.
