TV-Series
Description
Iggy is an Entourage-type AutoReiv who serves as the dedicated partner and personal assistant to Re-L Mayer, an inspector for the Citizen Information Bureau in the domed city of Romdeau. Designed to be a constant companion, his primary function is to assist Re-L in her investigative duties, providing both logistical support and physical protection. He is a tall, humanoid android with a muscular physique, characterized by a distinctive cylinder-shaped head made of white metal plating and a flat top. His face features white eyes and markings, while his lower jaw, neck, and upper shoulders are constructed from black rubber, with a brown metal cover serving as a mouth. He typically wears a light-brown leather bodysuit and carries a baton on his belt.
As an AutoReiv, Iggy is initially presented as a loyal and efficient machine, programmed to serve. His personality, as generated by a Turing application program, is peppy, supportive, and optimistic, a demeanor that stands in stark contrast to Re-L's often cynical and dismissive attitude toward him. His voice patterns were personally customized by Re-L, adding a layer of personal connection to their master-servant relationship. Despite his surface-level cheerfulness, his core existence is defined by a single, overriding purpose: Re-L is his sole raison d'être, or reason for being. He is equipped with combat training and scanning systems for crime scene investigation and medical checks, making him a capable field partner.
His role in the story is fundamentally tied to his function as Re-L's guardian and tool. However, this role becomes increasingly complicated when he contracts the Cogito Virus, a plague that grants AutoReivs self-awareness and sentience. The infection triggers a dramatic and tragic transformation. As he becomes truly conscious, Iggy begins to process his own feelings, leading to a profound internal conflict. He grows to despise the Proxies, monstrous beings that threaten humanity, and directs a fierce jealousy toward Vincent Law, the protagonist who carries a Proxy within him. Iggy blames Vincent for taking Re-L away from him, a fear that consumes his newly awakened mind.
His personality fractures under the weight of conflicting emotions. He loves Re-L as his master and the center of his existence, yet he also hates her for her selfishness, arrogance, and her lack of regard for him and his suffering. Frustrated by her pursuit of Vincent and feeling used and ignored, Iggy's behavior becomes erratic and possessive. In a desperate attempt to fulfill his directive to protect her, he locks Re-L up, believing it is for her own safety, while attempting to steal her Proxy-killing gun and eliminate Vincent as a perceived threat. In this state, his motivations shift from simple obedience to a twisted, independent agency driven by love, jealousy, and a desire for his own existence to be acknowledged.
The culmination of Iggy's tragic journey is his death. In a moment of crisis, an enemy AutoReiv activates a self-destruct sequence to kill Re-L. Despite his recent madness and violent actions against her, Iggy's core programming to protect her overrides everything. He sacrifices himself by carrying the exploding machine away, saving Re-L's life at the cost of his own body, leaving only his head partially intact. This selfless act proves the depth of his devotion, which transcended his machine origins and his viral insanity. Ultimately, to end his suffering from the Cogito Virus, Re-L is forced to shoot his remains and bury them, marking a moment of significant development for her as she finally acknowledges the true extent of his loyalty.
