TV-Series
Description
Drew is a Pokémon Coordinator who first appears during the anime's Advanced Generation series, originating from LaRousse City. He serves as a primary rival to May, pushing her to improve throughout her journey in Hoenn and Kanto.

Drew is characterized by a confident, critical, and slightly arrogant demeanor, which makes him popular among his supporters. His signature gestures include casually flicking his hair and presenting roses to May after contests, though he often claims the flowers are intended for her Beautifly. Despite his sharp tongue and tendency to make cutting remarks, Drew is not an antagonist. His teasing is largely a method to motivate May to become a better Coordinator, and he consistently demonstrates a caring nature toward his own Pokémon. On multiple occasions, he has prioritized his Pokémon's well-being over competition, such as withdrawing from an event to allow his injured Roselia to recover. He also exhibits a strong sense of fairness, refusing to sabotage rivals and actively working to thwart underhanded tactics from others like Harley and Team Rocket.

Drew's primary motivation is the pursuit of excellence in Pokémon Contests. His role in the story is to act as a benchmark for May's growth. He is an accomplished Coordinator who already possessed three ribbons when the group first met him, establishing him as a seasoned competitor. His history reveals that he was not always so confident; he was once a very nervous competitor who cried after losing to another Coordinator named Solidad in his first Contest final. This early defeat ultimately gave him the strength to strive for greater skill.

Drew's key relationships center on his rivalry with May and his friendship with Solidad. He and May share a competitive dynamic that evolves throughout the series, with Drew becoming less insulting and more openly respectful over time. He holds Solidad in high regard as a formidable opponent and friend, acknowledging her as the one who bested him early in his career. He shows little patience for the deceitful Coordinator Harley, seeing through his manipulations and warning May about him.

Drew's development is marked by a gradual softening of his attitude. While he remains confident, he grows to accept May as an equal rather than a novice. After losing to May in the Kanto Grand Festival, he congratulates her sincerely and invites her to travel to Johto, showing his respect for her abilities and a shift away from his earlier arrogance.

As a Coordinator, Drew possesses notable abilities with his Pokémon team. His signature and most frequently used Pokémon is Roselia, later evolving into Roserade. He also trains a versatile team including Masquerain, Flygon, and Absol. He is skilled enough to defeat Ash's Taillow in battle despite a type disadvantage, proving his tactical acumen extends beyond mere visual appeal. He achieved second place in the Hoenn Grand Festival, losing to Robert, and reached the Top 8 in the Kanto Grand Festival, where he was defeated by May. His skill has earned him Contest ribbons in Hoenn, Kanto, and later Johto.
