Description
Mana Takamiya is the biological younger sister of Shido Itsuka, though she initially appears as a mysterious girl with no clear memories of her past beyond a pendant containing a photograph of herself with a young boy she identifies as her older brother. She was once a Wizard employed by DEM Industries, an organization that develops and supplies realizer units for combat against Spirits, and was later transferred to the Anti Spirit Team as a temporary Second Lieutenant. Her background is marked by extensive experimentation performed by DEM, which subjected her body to tests and drugs to enhance her combat capabilities, ultimately shortening her lifespan without her knowledge at the time. In terms of personality, Mana displays a duality depending on the situation. When engaged in her duties, she can appear as a cold and ruthless soldier, highly disciplined and efficient in combat, driven by her training and the mission to eliminate Spirits. However, she also possesses a more vulnerable and caring side, especially when it comes to her brother Shido, whom she addresses as Onii-sama and protects fiercely despite her fragmented memories. Her primary motivation throughout the series is to protect Shido and to regain and understand her lost past. She is deeply loyal to him, and this loyalty eventually leads her to leave DEM Industries and join Ratatoskr after learning the truth about her condition. In Date A Live Mayuri Judgement, Mana appears as a supporting character, lending her abilities to the broader conflict involving the mysterious sphere Kerubiel and the Spirit Mayuri. Her role is that of a capable ally who, despite her history of hostility toward Spirits, works alongside Shido and the others when the situation demands it. Key relationships include her bond with Shido, which forms the emotional core of her character arc, and her rivalry with Kotori Itsuka, whom she sees as a competitor for the position of Shidos sister. She also has a tense, adversarial history with Kurumi Tokisaki, whose clones Mana has killed numerous times without realizing she was never confronting the real Kurumi. Over the course of the series, Mana undergoes significant development. She transitions from a cold, memory-less weapon of DEM to a more emotionally open individual who accepts her brothers world and the Spirits within it, eventually living alongside Shido and the other girls. Her notable abilities stem from her use of a CR-Unit, which grants her exceptional combat prowess. She is considered one of the most skilled Wizards in existence, capable of subduing multiple opponents single-handedly and using specialized equipment designed to kill Spirits. Her time at DEM gave her the training and modifications necessary to wield these tools effectively, making her a formidable fighter in any engagement.
