Description
Aeka is the first princess of the royal family of the planet Jurai. She is depicted as a young woman with long violet hair and purple eyes, and her demeanor is typically modest, well-mannered, traditional, and aristocratic. This proper exterior, however, masks a fiercer side; she can become loud, aggressive, and even snobbish, particularly when provoked. Her aristocratic upbringing is often evident in her speech and her expectations of others. While she carries herself with the dignity of a princess, she is not afraid to show her temper, especially in her long-standing rivalry with the space pirate Ryoko.
Aeka’s primary motivation is her love for the series’ protagonist, Tenchi Masaki. She is deeply devoted to him and is fiercely protective of him, as well as her younger sister, Sasami. Her feelings for Tenchi place her in direct and constant competition with Ryoko, who also seeks his affection. The conflict between the two women stems from their opposite personalities and backgrounds: Aeka is a woman of class and status, while Ryoko is blunt, ill-mannered, and more openly forward in her pursuits. This rivalry is a central aspect of her interactions, often leading to humorous arguments and brawls, though they are capable of putting aside their differences when Tenchi is in genuine danger.
In the film Tenchi Muyo in Love, Aeka plays a crucial role as one of the key members of the group who travel back in time to the year 1970. The mission is to protect Tenchi’s mother, a young woman named Achika, from the super-criminal Kain, who seeks to erase the Jurai bloodline. Upon arriving in the past, Aeka assumes the role of a student at Achika’s high school to keep watch over her. Her actions throughout the story are driven by the need to ensure Tenchi’s very existence is not erased from history. In the final battle within a subspace dimension, Aeka fights alongside Tenchi and Ryoko against the powerful Kain. After the villain is defeated, Aeka is present when Achika, having learned the truth about her future, asks Ryoko and Aeka to take care of her son, Tenchi, as she will not be there for him in their present time.
Aeka’s key relationships are with Tenchi, her rival Ryoko, and her sister Sasami, towards whom she is very protective and maternal. As a member of the Jurai royal family, Aeka possesses significant powers and abilities. She can generate powerful energy barriers and force fields for both offensive and defensive purposes, and she can fire powerful energy blasts. She can summon lesser guardians to fight for her or contain enemies. In battle, she sometimes dons a special Jurai battle-suit. Aeka also commands a royal treeship named Ryu-Oh, which serves as her primary mode of interstellar travel and is a powerful vessel in its own right, capable of generating Light Hawk Wings, a nearly impenetrable defensive force.
