Description
Chelsea is a major supporting character in the dark fantasy story, introduced as a new member of the Night Raid team of assassins. She is recruited by the group's leader, Najenda, to fill the ranks after the deaths of several key members. Her most striking physical features are her long, light red hair and the distinctive pair of headphones she wears, which are tied with a large red ribbon. She is of small stature, standing approximately 157 centimeters tall, and is almost always seen with a lollipop in her mouth, a habit that contributes to her somewhat playful and girlish appearance. Specific personal details about her are known, including her birthday of November 15th and her B blood type. Her measurements are recorded as 83-54-84.

Before joining the Revolutionary Army, Chelsea came from a common family. She used her intelligence to secure a job as a government official, where she hoped to one day marry a wealthy man. However, witnessing the extreme corruption of her superiors and the local governor forced her to confront the world's brutality. The governor, for instance, would hunt poor citizens for sport. Her spirit was nearly crushed by this despair, but she discovered and stole a powerful relic known as a Teigu called the Gaea Foundation. Using its transformative power, she assassinated the corrupt governor. Seeing the immense positive change this brought to her town, and believing her hands were "already stained," she fully committed to her path as an assassin for the revolution. She was formerly a member of the All-Belg Assassination Guild, as shown in the prequel story, where she was trained by a mentor named Babara who noted her assassination skills were top-notch even if her basic physical stamina was lacking. Chelsea is also the sole survivor of a previous Revolutionary Army team that was completely wiped out, a traumatic event that deeply shapes her worldview and actions.

Chelsea's personality is a complex blend of light-hearted mischief and grim pragmatism. On the surface, she appears cheerful, friendly, and sociable. She is known to be a prankster, often using her shapeshifting Teigu to play tricks on her comrades, particularly her fellow Night Raid member Mine. However, this charming exterior masks a cold, calculating, and brutally honest interior. She is an objective realist who delivers blunt, often harsh, analyses of people and situations. When she first joins Night Raid, she immediately causes friction by criticizing the deaths of previous members Sheele and Bulat, implying their compassion made them "soft" and led to their downfall. While this seems cruel, it stems directly from her trauma; she is desperately afraid of losing another family and wants to harden her new comrades to ensure their survival. Beneath her detached and severe demeanor lies a genuinely kind heart, and her harsh words are always intended to be accurate and protective, not purely malicious. She is 100% committed to the revolutionary cause and shows her enemies no mercy, often taking a sort of vengeful pride in assassinating those she deems evil.

Her role in the story is to serve as a highly skilled new asset for Night Raid. Her primary function in combat is as an infiltration and assassination specialist. Her Teigu, the Gaea Foundation, is a cosmetics case that allows her to instantly transform her appearance into that of any person or animal. This power of disguise is perfect for getting close to a target without raising suspicion. However, the transformation is only physical; it does not grant her the abilities of whatever she transforms into, and her clothes do not change with her, requiring her to plan her disguises carefully. Her signature method of killing involves using this deception to approach an enemy and then striking a lethal pressure point, usually in the neck, with a sharp needle. Despite her Teigu being a support-type, Najenda states that Chelsea is sent on as many missions as the team's strongest fighter, Akame, which highlights her incredible effectiveness and skill as an assassin. She excels at stealth, studying her targets to exploit their specific weaknesses, and ending fights in a single, decisive blow.

Her key relationships within Night Raid are varied. She has a playful, comedic rivalry with Mine, whom she loves to tease, often about her bust size or by using her Teigu to steal her food. She develops a mutual respect and friendship with Leone. Most significantly, she forms a bond with the protagonist, Tatsumi. Initially, she criticizes his naive "softness," but she is impressed when he humbly accepts her advice. Over time, she grows fond of his kind and innocent nature, and she eventually develops a strong romantic affection for him, even blushing when she realizes how much of her attention is focused on him. Her desire to be praised by Tatsumi unfortunately influences one of her key decisions.

Chelsea's character development is tragically cut short but sees her open up slightly to the camaraderie of Night Raid, letting her guard down more than she intended. In a major battle, she successfully assassinates the Jaeger warrior Bols. Despite warnings from her comrade Lubbock that it is too dangerous, she makes the uncharacteristically rash decision to also try and kill Kurome, one of the Empire's most powerful warriors. Her motivation for this risk is driven not just by a strategic desire to help her allies, but also by a personal, almost girlish wish to prove herself and be praised by Tatsumi. Disguised as Bols, she approaches Kurome and seemingly lands a fatal blow. However, Kurome's puppet, a being named Natala, defends her, and Chelsea's Teigu is destroyed by gunfire from another enemy, severing her fingers. She is caught by the puppet and decapitated. In a final, horrifying act of brutality, her head is put on public display in the town square, and her body is dissected by the enemy general Esdeath for information before being fed to her monstrous familiar. Her death mirrors that of her predecessor, Sheele, and though tragic, her actions were a massive contribution, as she eliminated Bols and severely weakened Kurome, which greatly aided Night Raid in their future battles. In her final moments, her thoughts were of Tatsumi, indicating the depth of her feelings for him.
