Description
Kevin Yoshino is a fictional character and the primary antagonist in the eighteenth film of the Detective Conan series. He is a 32-year-old former Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps who later becomes the owner of a military supply store in Tokyo. Physically, Yoshino is depicted as tall and muscular with a close-cropped haircut and a noticeable scar on his eyebrow. His typical attire consists of a white fitted t-shirt, green cargo pants, and black military boots.

The foundation of Yoshino's character lies in his profound sense of loyalty and debt to Timothy Hunter, a fellow soldier who saved his life during a military operation in the Middle East. When Hunter was later stripped of his Silver Star due to a conspiracy by jealous comrades, lost his family, and was left physically and mentally devastated, Yoshino absorbed his mentor's disgrace as his own. This sense of shared grievance transformed into a deep-seated motivation for revenge, and he willingly allowed Hunter to train him as a sniper to carry out a complex retribution plan against those responsible. His actions, while criminal, are driven by an unwavering and almost selfless dedication to his friend, demonstrating a willingness to commit murder to rectify the wrongs done to Hunter.

Within the story, Yoshino serves as the agent of Hunter's vengeance. He initiates his part in the plan by murdering a journalist in Seattle before relocating to Japan. From there, he methodically tracks down and assassinates the individuals who wronged Hunter, including the businessman who ruined him financially and a man whose actions led to the death of Hunter's sister. In a pivotal moment, following Hunter's request to complete his training, Yoshino shoots and kills his own mentor. He continues by killing another target aboard a train, where he also injures the high school detective Masumi Sera when she intervenes. His final target is Jack Waltz, the mastermind of the original conspiracy. During this attempt at the Bell Tree Tower, he is thwarted by Conan Edogawa and the FBI sharpshooter Subaru Okiya. Cornered, Yoshino takes a young girl, Ayumi Yoshida, hostage, but is eventually subdued by Ran Mouri and taken into custody.

Yoshino's key relationships define his entire arc. His bond with Timothy Hunter is the sole catalyst for his actions, acting as both his savior, teacher, and a surrogate family figure. He has no direct personal grudge against his other targets, including the FBI agents and Conan's group, viewing them only as obstacles to be eliminated to complete his mission. His conflict with FBI agent Shuichi Akai, operating under the alias Subaru Okiya, highlights his role as an exceptionally skilled sniper who still finds himself outmatched by a superior opponent.

Kevin Yoshino's development is not one of redemption but of descent and rigid adherence to a tragic purpose. He is portrayed as a man with a code of honor, capable of deep loyalty, yet utterly ruthless in executing his revenge. As a fighter, his most notable abilities are his exceptional skills as a sniper, honed first in the military and then through intense training with Hunter. He is proficient with a variety of long-range weapons, including the MK11 sniper rifle and a Barrett M107 anti-materiel rifle, as well as close-quarters arms like the MAC-10 submachine gun and hand grenades. He also demonstrates fluency in both English and Japanese, which aids his operations in Tokyo. His physical fitness, tactical knowledge, and willingness to use extreme measures mark him as a formidable and dangerous adversary.
