Description
Hakkai Shiba, born September 4, 1991, anchors the narrative as a central figure. He stands as the younger brother to Taiju and Yuzuha Shiba. During his teenage years, he measures 183 cm (6'0") and weighs 78 kg, sporting royal blue hair in a crew cut with a distinctive swirl shaved into the left side, extending to the back of his head. Indigo eyes and a scar on his left lip complete his look, along with a concentric teardrop earring on his left ear—later replaced by three connected rings. As an adult, his hair turns white and reverts to a crew cut, while his height grows to 193 cm (6'4").

Timid, kind-hearted, and free-spirited, Hakkai contrasts sharply with his abusive brother Taiju. He demonstrates profound loyalty and compassion, especially toward Yuzuha and friends, and follows old-fashioned honor codes, labeling those he owes life debts as "Onjin." Familial abuse undermines his confidence, causing him to freeze around strangers. He idolizes Takashi Mitsuya as both mentor and brother figure, even setting Mitsuya’s photo as his phone wallpaper.

Hakkai’s past is steeped in trauma. After their mother’s death, he and Yuzuha endured Taiju’s physical and verbal abuse, framed as "disciplinary love." Yuzuha often absorbed beatings meant for Hakkai, though he mistakenly believed he shielded her, fostering guilt and submissiveness. In the Christmas Showdown Arc, Hakkai plotted to kill Taiju but froze during the confrontation. Takemichi Hanagaki intervened, enduring Taiju’s violence to ignite Hakkai’s resolve. Manjirou Sano and Ken Ryuguji’s timely arrival defeated Taiju, freeing Hakkai and Yuzuha.

As Vice-Captain of the Tokyo Manji Gang’s Second Division, Hakkai commands his unit. His combat skills rank him second-strongest in the division; he fells average delinquents with one punch. Though weaker than Taiju, he lands critical blows like a chi punch to his brother’s face. During the Kanto Manji Gang battle, he displays tactical strength by carrying and defeating opponents such as the Haitani brothers. In certain futures, his stature and looks propel him to international modeling fame.

Relationships drive Hakkai’s growth. His bond with Yuzuha hinges on mutual protection and trust. His near-familial tie to Mitsuya traces to childhood, when Mitsuya halted his bullying of another child. Friendship with Takemichi sparks during the Black Dragon Arc, where Takemichi’s unwavering support against Taiju earns Hakkai’s lifelong loyalty. This devotion leads Hakkai to fight alongside Takemichi against Tenjiku and the Kanto Manji Gang, often paired with allies like Souya Kawata.

Hakkai evolves across timelines. In one alternate present, he becomes the Black Dragons’ 11th leader after allegedly killing its former head, estranging him from ex-Tokyo Manji Gang allies. Another timeline sees him survive gang conflicts to model internationally, though he retains shyness around non-familial women. His role in the Kanto Manji conflict pits him against foes like Ran Haitani and Kakucho; injuries fail to deter him, spurred by Takemichi’s influence. Ultimately, he models under Yuzuha’s management, upholding loyalty to Mitsuya and Tokyo Manji Gang values.
