Description
Himiko is the female protagonist of the story, a fifteen-year-old girl who becomes a key player in the deadly game. She has long blonde hair and blue eyes, which give her a distinctive appearance, and her real name is Emilia, though she is known to everyone by her in-game handle. Her life before the island was tragically upended when she introduced her friends to an older boy named Yoshioka, a popular figure who led a band. After leaving her friends alone for a short time, she returned to discover that Yoshioka and his associates had drugged and assaulted them. Overwhelmed by panic, Himiko fled the scene and later reported the crime to the police, leading to the band's arrest. However, her friends did not see her as a victim or a helper; they blamed her for escaping while they suffered. Bullied and ostracized at school, she became a social outcast, and her former friends eventually nominated her to participate in the Btooom! game as an act of revenge. This series of betrayals left her deeply traumatized, fostering an intense androphasis, or fear and distrust of all men.

On the island, Himiko initially fell in with a group of male players, but the experience only worsened her trauma. One of the men, a volatile individual named Masashi, killed another member of their group, leading Himiko and another player named Mitsuo to flee. In the forest, Mitsuo, driven by desperation and his own warped desires, attempted to sexually assault her, an act that directly mirrored the earlier trauma from her past. To avoid being violated, Himiko activated one of her bombs, a drastic act that scared Mitsuo away before she killed him with the explosive. This event solidified her resolve, and she entered a state of near-complete misandry, viewing every man on the island as an enemy.

Her perspective began to shift when she encountered Ryota Sakamoto. Before being sent to the island, Himiko was a player of the Btooom! online game, where she had formed a close bond and even married a player known as SAKAMOTO. She did not initially realize that Ryota was that same person. Despite her cold and guarded demeanor toward him, Ryota treated her with genuine kindness and respect, risking his safety to protect her. When she finally discovered his true identity, he became the sole exception to her hatred. She placed her absolute trust in him, a stark contrast to her established distrust of all other men. Their relationship acts as the emotional anchor of her story, providing her with a fragile sense of safety in a world of violence.

Throughout the deadly game, Himiko shows herself to be resourceful and resilient, though she is far from a hardened killer. Her primary weapon of choice is a stun gun called the BiriBiri 650000, which she carries to defend herself against physical contact from men. She is also equipped with Timer-type BIMs, the same kind of explosive that Ryota favors. Her fighting skills are mostly self-taught, born from a desperate need to survive. She is capable of defending herself, but she often hesitates and struggles with the act of taking a life, as seen when she killed Mitsuo not out of aggression but as a last resort to protect herself from a fate worse than death. Her aim with the BIMs is often poor, as she tends to throw them with her eyes closed, a sign of her inner turmoil and reluctance to fully embrace the game's violence.

As the story progresses, Himiko begins to slowly heal from her psychological wounds through her interactions with Ryota. He serves as a counterbalance to her trauma, proving through his actions that not all men are predators. However, her development is a continuous struggle; she does not suddenly become outgoing or trusting. Instead, she learns to function alongside Ryota, finding a tentative partnership and a shared goal of escaping the island. Her role is not just that of a love interest, but a survivor who provides a crucial moral and emotional perspective, reminding Ryota and the reader of the human cost of the game they are forced to play, as her past is a constant reminder of the cruelty people are capable of inflicting on one another.
