Description
Abel Buttman is one of the central characters in the anime Lady Georgie, serving as the eldest son of the family that raises the protagonist. He is a figure defined by intense emotion, physical strength, and a deep internal conflict stemming from his forbidden love for his adoptive sister, Georgie.

Physically, Abel is depicted as handsome and strong, possessing a rugged, manly appearance that sets him apart from his more introverted younger brother, Arthur. His personality is passionate, impulsive, and often driven by his immediate feelings. He is known for his fiery temper and a tendency to act before thinking, which can manifest as both heroic protectiveness and selfish aggression. When his emotions are stirred, particularly by jealousy or frustration, he can react poorly, such as when he storms off to drink until he passes out after learning a distressing secret about Georgie's origins. This impulsivity also leads him to physically lash out, most notably when he punches Georgie's love interest, Lowell J. Grey, in a fit of rage.

Abel's primary motivation throughout the story is his love for Georgie. Unlike Arthur, who suppresses his own feelings to protect Georgie's happiness and family harmony, Abel is determined to act on his passion. He knows from a young age that Georgie is not his blood-related sister, which fuels his desire to be with her as a partner rather than a sibling. His love is all-consuming and possessive, leading him to make life-altering decisions. In an early attempt to escape his feelings, he becomes a sailor and leaves home for six months, hoping the distance will help him forget her. When this fails, he shifts his focus entirely to claiming her heart, even following her across the ocean to England when she leaves to find her true family and reunite with Lowell.

Within the story, Abel plays the role of the passionate rival and the protective brother. He is the primary obstacle to Georgie's relationship with Lowell and a direct foil to Arthur. His role evolves from a boy fighting his own heart to a man who openly challenges for Georgie's love, often disregarding the social and emotional consequences. His key relationships are complex. With Georgie, his dynamic is one of unrequited, intense longing. He confesses his love to her directly, believing her true parentage frees him to do so, but she does not initially return his feelings in a romantic way. With his mother, Mary, Abel has a strained relationship; she is aware of his feelings and often blames Georgie for his suffering and for his decision to become a sailor, further poisoning the household atmosphere. With Arthur, he shares a deep but competitive bond. While they love each other as brothers, their shared love for Georgie creates a bitter rivalry that occasionally erupts into physical conflict. Another significant relationship is with Jessica, a young woman who is deeply in love with Abel. He uses her as an attempt to forget Georgie, embracing her after a night of drinking, but he ultimately cannot abandon his true feelings and leaves her behind, demonstrating the shallow nature of his commitment to anyone but Georgie.

Over the course of the narrative, Abel undergoes significant development, though his core passion never wavers. He matures from a brooding, impulsive teenager into a man driven by a desperate, self-sacrificing love. His journey takes him from the Australian outback to the treacherous high society of London. In the end, his character arc reaches a tragic climax. To save his brother Arthur from a villainous nobleman, Abel devises a dangerous plan. When the scheme unravels, he is captured and sentenced to death. In a final act of courage and defiance, he publicly exposes the villain's crimes in front of a firing squad. Just as his execution is about to be stayed, the villain shoots him, and Abel dies in Georgie's arms, finally having heard her confess her love for him. His notable abilities include his physical strength and skill as a sailor, which he uses to cross the ocean in pursuit of Georgie. He is also capable of great daring, acting as a protector and a fighter when those he loves are in danger, even at the cost of his own life.
