Description
Chan is a young vampire girl who appears as a supporting character in the Black Blood Brothers anime series. She is a member of a group of refugee vampires led by a woman named Kelly Wong. Prior to becoming a vampire, Chan was a human child who suffered from a terminal illness. Her parents, wishing for their daughter to live, pleaded with Kelly to save her, and Kelly transformed Chan into a vampire. Following her transformation, Chan stayed by Kelly's side and came to view her as an older sister figure.
In terms of appearance, Chan is a small girl with brown hair and brown eyes. Her demeanor is generally quiet and childlike, and she is shown to be capable of simple, friendly interactions. Upon arriving in Japan on a ship bound for the Special Zone, Chan meets Kotaro Mochizuki, the young brother of the legendary vampire Jiro Mochizuki. Kotaro, who has snuck out of his quarters, encounters Chan, and the two share a brief, secretive conversation, with Chan promising not to tell anyone about their meeting. Later, while the refugee group is staying in Chinatown, Chan and Kotaro are seen playing together with paper airplanes, indicating the development of a gentle friendship between the two children.
Chan's motivations are primarily tied to her loyalty to Kelly and her desire for safety and companionship. As a refugee vampire, she is part of a marginalized group seeking shelter in the Special Zone. Her role in the story is largely passive, as she is a young girl caught in the conflicts of the adult vampire world. Despite her innocent nature, Chan's existence is deeply tragic. The narrative reveals that she is secretly a Kowloon Child, a special and dangerous type of vampire. Her transformation into this state is not of her own doing. It is eventually revealed that another member of the refugee group, Johan Tsang, is the true source of the Kowloon infection. Chan becomes one of the victims of this corruption.
The central conflict comes to a head when Johan, revealed to be a Kowloon Child, fully turns Chan and other refugees into his kind. Chan is subsequently kidnapped by Johan alongside Kotaro. This transformation and her unwilling involvement in Johan's schemes mark the peak of her development, as she shifts from a simple refugee child into a tragic figure of the Kowloon bloodline. Her story concludes in a sorrowful manner, as she is ultimately killed by Huang, a member of the Special Zone's Suppression Team.
As a vampire, Chan possesses the basic traits of her kind, including enhanced physical capabilities and longevity, though she is not depicted as a combatant. Her most notable ability is her status as a Kowloon Child. This bloodline is described as being extremely dangerous, as a Kowloon Child can turn other beings into vampires simply by drinking their blood, a process which typically kills the victim. This characteristic sets them apart from ordinary vampires and makes them feared and targeted by organizations like the Suppression Team. Her fate serves as a key plot point that escalates the conflict between the various vampire factions and the human authorities in the series.
