TV-Series
Description
Misaki Kirihara is a police officer in Tokyo who serves as the section chief of the Foreign Affairs Section 4 within the Public Security Bureau, a division dedicated to investigating matters involving individuals known as Contractors. She comes from a law enforcement background; her father, Naoyasu Kirihara, holds the position of Superintendent Supervisor in the National Police Agency. Misaki chose to become a policewoman out of a desire to protect those who cannot protect themselves, a motivation that underlies her strong sense of justice and sharp intuition. She is characterized by her serious demeanor, rarely smiling or laughing, and is often seen wearing gray‑framed glasses with her long brown hair tied back. She has a distaste for smokers due to the smell and is sensitive about the exposure of her body. Despite her disciplined appearance, she enjoys eating greasy food and maintains her fitness through the constant physical activity her job demands.

Misaki does not possess any supernatural abilities; she is a normal human whose strengths lie in her exceptional intellect, investigative skills, and police training. She is proficient in hand‑to‑hand combat and can use firearms when necessary, but her greatest asset is her ability to piece together clues and anticipate the actions of Contractors. Her role in the story is that of a persistent investigator who gradually becomes entangled with the enigmatic Contractor known as Hei, who operates under the alias Li Shun Sheng. Their relationship is complex and marked by mutual tension and underlying romantic feelings. Misaki often finds herself torn between her duty to apprehend Contractors and her personal connection to Hei, who she comes to see as more than just a criminal. In a pivotal moment during a special episode, she accidentally discovers Hei’s true identity, though the memory is later erased by a memory‑altering substance released by a Contractor. This event deepens her internal conflict and fuels her determination to uncover the truth.

Over the course of the series, Misaki’s character develops from a strict law‑enforcement officer into a more nuanced figure who grapples with moral ambiguity. She begins to question the black‑and‑white view of Contractors as mere threats and instead sees them as individuals with their own struggles. In the second season, Gemini of the Meteor, she joins a new division called Section 3, partly out of a personal need to find Hei and understand what has happened to him. Her pursuit is driven not only by professional obligation but also by genuine concern for his well‑being, suggesting a deep emotional investment. She also maintains important relationships with her colleagues, such as her subordinate Yusuke Saito, who harbors feelings for her, and her father, whose expectations have shaped her career path. Misaki’s journey is one of balancing her sense of justice with the emotional complexities of a world where the line between right and wrong is often blurred, and her human vulnerabilities—her lack of supernatural protection—serve as a constant reminder of the dangers she faces.
