Description
Despara is a female character from the anime Kiba, visually distinguished by her black eyes and long black hair that reaches her chest. Her appearance often includes a dress and a half-mask, which contributes to her enigmatic and somewhat menacing presence.

As a native of the nation of Task, Despara holds the rank of an executive, though her position within the organization is considered low. In this capacity, she serves as a subordinate to a higher-ranking official named Morocco, also known as Moloch. Her primary function within the series is that of an operative, carrying out dangerous assignments on behalf of her superiors.

The most defining event in Despara's life, and the source of her primary motivation, is her mission to assassinate a woman named Jesara and her daughter, Roia. Despara successfully ambushed Jesara and Roia, causing Roia to fall from a cliff. She then killed Jesara, completing her contract. However, as Jesara lay dying, she used the power of a shard to transfer her soul directly into Despara's body. This act had a profound and tragic consequence, trapping Jesara's spirit within Despara and creating a form of dual personality. Despara found her consciousness and body now shared with that of the woman she had just murdered.

This forced cohabitation becomes the central conflict of her character. Despara is driven by a desperate need to free herself from what she perceives as Jesara's curse or spiritual bondage. Her subsequent actions are focused on trying to break this connection, which leads her to attempt to kill Roia once more, believing that eliminating the last link to Jesara might sever the bond. This motivation puts her in direct opposition to the protagonists, who seek to protect Roia. Her role in the story is thus a tragic one: a villainous agent who becomes a victim of her own violence, trapped in a psychological and spiritual prison of her own making.

Despara's key relationships are defined by this central incident. Her relationship with her superior, Morocco, is one of a loyal soldier following orders. A more complex dynamic exists with a character named Cloud, who serves as her aide. Unbeknownst to Despara, Cloud is secretly a spy from the land of Templar who had fallen in love with Jesara during his mission. After Jesara's soul takes refuge in Despara, Cloud finds himself unable to harm or move against Despara, as doing so would also hurt the woman he loves. This creates a tense standoff where Despara's own subordinate is bound to her by the very curse she wishes to break.

Despara's character development is not one of redemption or growth, but of escalating desperation and internal decay. She begins as a competent and cold-hearted operative, but after Jesara's soul invades her, she is plunged into a state of internal war. Her development is marked by her increasingly frantic attempts to reclaim sole control of her body. In a final, ironic twist, as she moves to kill Roia to end her torment, she loses control at the critical moment. Jesara's personality surfaces and uses Despara's body to shield Roia from an attack by Morocco, taking fatal wounds in the process. Despara ultimately dies from these injuries, her body destroyed by the very conflict that defined her existence. Her notable ability, beyond her skills as a shard caster and operative, is inadvertently demonstrated through her possession; she becomes a living vessel for another's soul, a situation that highlights the dangerous and unpredictable nature of shard magic in the world of Kiba.
