Description
Crane Yuzuriha is a Silver Saint of the Crane constellation who fights for Athena during the 18th century Holy War against Hades, as depicted in the Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas manga. She is a 17-year-old warrior originally from Tibet who was trained in the mystical region of Jamir by the veteran Altar Saint, Hakurei. Due to this upbringing, she is a descendant of the Lemurians, an ancient race known for their ability to repair and create Cloths, and she was a childhood training partner of the future Aries Saint, Shion.
Yuzuriha possesses a serious, hardened, and pragmatic personality that often makes her appear apathetic or even arrogant to others. She is highly observant and constantly analyzes situations to determine the most logical course of action, speaking only when it is necessary. Her demeanor is heavily influenced by the death of her parents, which instilled in her a deep-seated desire for vengeance against the god Hades, leading her to avoid unnecessary battles that do not serve that goal. Despite her cold exterior, she is deeply obedient to her master Hakurei and follows the path of honor and justice. She shows a more open and relaxed side when interacting with Shion, as they share a long history as fellow disciples.
Motivated by her duty to protect Athena and her vendetta against the Specters, Yuzuriha plays a crucial role as a supporting protagonist throughout the war. She is first introduced when she is sent by Hakurei to Florence to retrieve Pegasus Tenma, whose soul was trapped after a confrontation with Hades's host, Alone. Finding Tenma's body and his friend, Unicorn Yato, she uses her teleportation abilities to bring them to Jamir. Upon arrival, she demonstrates her dedication by offering her own blood to Hakurei so that he could repair the damaged Unicorn Cloth. Later, she is dispatched to the Underworld alongside Yato on a dangerous mission to rescue Tenma's soul.
Her key relationships include her camaraderie with Tenma and Yato, forming a trio of central characters who support one another. She shares a unique bond with her master, Hakurei, who gave her the mission and purpose of a Saint, and with Shion, her fellow student from Jamir. A tragic and defining aspect of her backstory involves her younger brother, Tokusa, who became a Specter in Hades's army, a fact that adds deep personal stakes to the holy war.
Throughout the story, Yuzuriha develops from a warrior driven largely by personal revenge into a more disciplined soldier who follows the orders of Athena, Sasha. During the final assault on the Lost Canvas, she disobeyed an order to retreat in order to continue fighting, showing her unwavering resolve. After Hades is defeated, Yuzuriha survives the war but loses her Cosmo and her abilities as a Saint, choosing to live as an ordinary person. It is implied that she eventually marries her comrade, Yato.
As a fighter, Yuzuriha is one of the most powerful Silver Saints, renowned for her mastery of superhuman abilities such as telekinesis and teleportation, skills she learned from her Lemurian master. In combat, she utilizes a unique style that combines powerful kicks with a long, flowing red scarf she wears as a weapon. By imbuing this scarf with her Cosmo, she can manipulate it like a whip or generate intense heat to burn her enemies. Her signature technique is known as the Dazzling Dance of Beautiful Flashing Kicks (Kenbu Shōsenkyaku), a devastating series of kicks combined with simultaneous strikes from her heated scarf.
