Description
Blanca is a white mouse who serves as the magical familiar of Vanilla Mieux. She is characterized by her habit of ending her sentences with a mouse-like verbal tic, often sounding like "...dechu" or "...chu". She is deeply loyal to Vanilla and is very protective of her master, frequently encouraging her and offering advice on how to succeed in their endeavors. This loyalty is absolute; even when Vanilla transforms into an ogre, Blanca remains by her side, at which point the star-shaped mark on her forehead changes from white to black.
In stark contrast to her devotion to Vanilla, Blanca is openly hostile and rebellious toward Chocolat Meilleure, Vanilla's rival and best friend. She often speaks sarcastically and mordantly to Chocolat, belittling her plans and comparing her unfavorably to Vanilla. She dislikes being called a rat, insisting she is a white mouse. Blanca also has a competitive and bickering relationship with Duke, Chocolat's frog familiar, and the two frequently clash.
Beneath her sharp exterior, Blanca has a passionate interest in fashion and hair styling, holding a beautician's license. Her true identity is a witch named Ruby, or Libby, who was once a very popular hairstylist in the Magical World. Her punishment for falling in love with a human was to be transformed into a mouse familiar. In the anime, this aspect of her character is explored in an episode where she develops a crush on a human man who runs a cheese shop. She uses magic to disguise herself as a human to work at his store. When she discovers he is sad because his girlfriend is studying abroad, she selflessly puts aside her own feelings and asks Chocolat to use magic to reunite him with his true love.
In the manga, Blanca is eventually freed from her familiar form and returns to her original human appearance as Ruby after receiving a white Frill Heart from Chocolat.
