TV-Series
Description
Chocola Meilleure, whose human world alias is Chocola Kato, is the central protagonist of her story. She is a young witch from the Magical World who is approximately ten years old in human equivalent, with a birthday on August 13th. She stands 153 centimeters tall and is recognized by her long orange hair, bright emerald green eyes, and the pointed ears characteristic of her kind. Her name is derived from the French word for chocolate.

In terms of personality, Chocola is defined by her bold, energetic, and cheerful nature. She is incredibly courageous and not easily frightened, showing a distinct lack of fear towards insects, snakes, and frogs, creatures that would typically startle human girls. Her approach to life is direct and forceful, and she is known for her catchphrase of threatening to blow someone away. While this brash and sometimes rude demeanor can be off-putting to some, it is balanced by a deep well of kindness and loyalty, especially towards her friends. She is a natural tomboy who prefers catching frogs and playing at being a spider-hero over more traditionally delicate pastimes.

Chocola's primary motivation is her participation in the Queen's Exam, a competition to determine the next ruler of the Magical World. The exam requires her and her best friend, Vanilla Mieux, to travel to the Human World. There, they must use their magic to collect hearts from humans, which manifest as magical jewels. The witch who collects the most valuable hearts wins the throne. Despite the competitive nature of the exam, Chocola is driven by a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect those she cares about, which often proves to be just as important as winning. A crucial rule in the Magical World is that a witch must never fall in love with a human, as it would cause her to lose her single heart, making her journey to collect the hearts of others fraught with personal risk, especially as she develops feelings for a mysterious human boy named Pierre.

Her role in the story is as the headstrong heroine whose path to the throne is interwoven with personal discovery. Upon arriving in the human world, she enrolls in the fifth grade of Moegi Academy under the name Chocola Kato. Her loud and upfront personality initially makes her less popular than the sweet and gentle Vanilla, which is a reversal of their social standings in the Magical World where Chocola is well-liked. This contrast becomes a key part of her development as she learns to navigate human society and form genuine friendships.

Her most significant relationships are with Vanilla Mieux and Pierre. Vanilla is her best friend and rival, and Chocola's fierce loyalty to her is a constant driving force. She will go to great lengths to defend and support Vanilla, even when their competition puts a strain on their friendship. Pierre is a complex figure who becomes her primary love interest. Over the course of the story, her feelings for him grow, leading to a deep and reciprocal bond that is central to the narrative's resolution. She also shares a connection with her magical familiar, a frog named Duke, and lives in the Magical World with her grandfather, Corne.

Chocola undergoes considerable development as the story progresses. She begins as an extremely rash and impulsive girl but gradually matures into a more understanding and worldly young woman, especially as the stakes become higher and the story's tone grows more serious. A major turning point is the discovery of her true heritage. It is revealed that she is the daughter of the legendary witch Cinnamon, and later, that her father is Glacé, a powerful dark ruler, making her a unique being with a hidden destiny. Perhaps most significantly, she is revealed to be a Purifier, a being with the rare and powerful ability to cleanse Noir, which are black, corrupted hearts. This power becomes crucial in her fight to save Pierre and others from darkness.

Chocola possesses a variety of notable magical abilities and skills. As a Purifier, her most unique trait is the capacity to turn black hearts pure again. She is also physically brave, having once defeated a dragon in her childhood to protect Vanilla. Her magical repertoire is channeled through a wand that uses different gems to cast spells. These include Paparadscha for Brillant Etoile, Watermelon Tourmaline for Fleur Spirale, Hauyne for Perpetual Aile, and Star Ruby for Renaissance Feu d'Artifice. She can also perform a personal spell called Chocolat Festa without needing her wand. The conclusion of her journey diverges between the manga and anime. In the anime, Vanilla refuses the throne, leading to Chocola being crowned the next Queen of the Magical World. In the manga, after a climactic battle with her father, Chocola and Pierre lose their memories and disappear for a time equivalent to thirty human years before eventually recovering and returning.
