Description
Komui Lee is the Chief Officer of the Black Order and the Branch Head of its European headquarters. He is the older brother of Lenalee Lee. After their parents were killed by Akuma, Komui raised his sister until she was taken away by the Black Order upon being identified as compatible with Innocence. He joined the organization to remain by her side, using his intelligence to rise through the ranks to become the head of the Science Department and eventually the overall commander.

Komui possesses a prominent whimsical and goofy personality. He is often lazy and avoids work, causing his assistant Reever Wenhamm to track him down. He occupies himself with unpredictable inventions, such as the rampaging robot Komurin II, and keeps a famously messy office, losing the recommendation letter of Allen Walker when he first arrived. He drinks coffee constantly, favoring Blue Mountain blends.

Despite his eccentricities, Komui has a sharp mind and a serious, sometimes ruthless resolve. He deeply feels the weight of sending exorcists and finders into danger, responding by designing better protective gear and personally performing the ritualistic and painful repairs on damaged Innocence. He is fiercely protective of his sister, and a strong psychic link allows them to sense each other's emotional and physical states. His extreme doting on Lenalee is a recurring aspect of his character.

In his role as Chief Officer, Komui directs the strategy of the Black Order, relays commands to exorcist squads, manages the European branch, and oversees all research into Innocence. While he generally presents a friendly front, he is not afraid to take decisive, controversial action. He defied the will of Special Auditor Malcom Rouvelier by ordering the destruction of an Akuma Egg, demonstrating his willingness to disobey Central authority when he deems it necessary. During the funeral of General Yeager, he showed a solemn and pragmatic ruthlessness by refusing requests to return the body and insisting on cremation.

His relationships are defined by his position. His bond with his sister is the deepest, driving his original and ongoing motivations. He works closely with his exasperated but loyal assistant Reever, the friendly cook Jerry, and maintains a complex intellectual rivalry with Bak Chan, the director of the Asian Branch. His subordinates trust him greatly, though his antics often try their patience.

Komui develops from a primarily comedic figure into a central authority figure making difficult strategic decisions. His notable abilities lie not in combat but in his genius-level scientific intellect. He is an expert in the study of Innocence, a capable inventor and engineer, and possesses the unique and vital skill of repairing damaged Innocence through a complex and painful procedure. His administrative and leadership skills keep the entire Black Order functioning.
