Description
Fuu is the young woman at the heart of her journey, a fifteen-year-old with a boundless spirit and a determined will. She is the catalyst for the entire story, having convinced two masterless samurai to accompany her as bodyguards on a seemingly impossible quest: to find a mysterious figure she只知道 as "the samurai who smells of sunflowers". Her full name is Fuu Kasami.

With a bright and trusting personality, Fuu often appears as a cheerful and energetic girl. She has a remarkable ability to find trouble, accidents, and interesting situations, leading to her being kidnapped or requiring rescue more than once. Despite her sunny disposition, however, she possesses a core of steel and unstoppable determination. When the situation calls for it, she proves to be incredibly resourceful and is not afraid to get her hands dirty, whether by cracking a vase over a wrongdoer's head or devising a clever escape plan. She is also known to put on a front, pretending to be more worldly and experienced than she actually is in an attempt to impress her reluctant companions, though this act rarely succeeds.

Fuu's motivations are rooted in a tragic past. Her mother died of illness after her father abandoned the family, leaving them to a difficult life. Her last memory of her father is of him running through a field of sunflowers, which is why she seeks the "sunflower samurai" for closure. This quest is the driving force of the narrative, and her stubborn refusal to give up on it is what keeps the trio together. Despite being the youngest of the group, she often acts as its de facto leader, nagging the older and more volatile Jin and Mugen into taking jobs to fund their travels and keeping them in line through sheer force of her will.

Her relationships with her two bodyguards are central to the story. She has a sororal relationship with both Mugen and Jin, acting as a younger sister who cares for them deeply even as they drive her to frustration. She is the one who reminds them of the life-debt they owe her, which stops them from killing each other on multiple occasions. While she is often the damsel in distress, she is by no means passive; she frequently contributes to her own rescues and has even saved herself on occasion. Over the course of the series, the bond between the three deepens significantly. While the journey begins as a cynical transaction, they grow to genuinely care for one another, supporting each other through conflicts with their respective pasts. Throughout the adventure, Fuu demonstrates her resilience, moving from a girl abandoned by her father to a young woman who confronts him and finds resolution.

While Fuu is not a skilled fighter like her companions, she has several notable abilities. Her greatest asset is her resourcefulness and her talkative nature; she can talk her way into and out of almost any situation. She is also a surprisingly prodigious eater, with a seemingly bottomless appetite that allows her to compete in eating contests and shock onlookers. Her constant companion is a small pet squirrel named Momo, who often assists her in small but crucial ways. Always dressed in a deep pink kimono with a flower pattern, she carries a matching tantō (a short blade) with netsuke charms attached: a skull pendant from her father, a pair of dice, and a dog.
