Description
Lucciola is a Guild agent belonging to the House of Eraclea and the younger brother of Cicada, who serves as the personal bodyguard and assassin of Maestro Delphine Eraclea. He was assigned from a very early age to protect Dio Eraclea, the younger brother of the Maestro, and he fulfills this role with unwavering dedication. Physically, Lucciola is a tall, slender young man with very short white-blond hair, gray eyes, a long face, a small mouth, and a high forehead tattooed with a vertical black eye. His appearance is solemn and sad, and these traits complement his poised demeanor.
In terms of personality, Lucciola rarely shows emotion, as if he is incapable of doing so. He is typically formal and respectful, addressing Dio as Lord Dio most of the time. Despite his reserved nature, he is deeply protective of Dio and is willing to give his life to defend him. Dio, in turn, considers Lucciola not merely a servant but a friend, though Lucciola himself seems unsure how to respond to that closeness. His motivations are rooted in duty and fear: his loyalty to Dio is genuine, but it can be overwritten by his fear of the Maestro Delphine. This conflict drives his most critical actions.
Lucciola's role in the story is that of Dio's faithful bodyguard and companion, often accompanying Dio on his adventures and acting as a counterweight to Dio's flamboyant and reckless nature. He is also a capable Starfish pilot and a highly skilled martial artist, able to match even his brother Cicada in combat. His key relationships include his bond with Dio, his fraught connection with his brother Cicada, and his tense deference to the Maestro Delphine, who views him as a tool. His development traces a tragic arc: he is forced to betray Dio under the Maestro's orders, but later redeems himself by helping Claus Valca, Alvis Hamilton, and Dio escape from the Maestro's grasp. In a final confrontation, Lucciola kills Cicada, only to be disintegrated by a ring device that the Maestro had given him as a supposed gift. His name, derived from the Italian word for firefly, reflects his brief but luminous presence in the narrative.
