TV-Series
Description
Ikki Tenryo is the main protagonist of his series, a young and spirited boy whose deep enthusiasm for Medabots drives the story forward. He is characterized as lively and easygoing, though he can also be timid at times. Despite having extensive knowledge of Medabots for his age, Ikki initially does not own one because his parents insist he save up his own money to buy one. His fortunes change when he discovers a special medal in a river. Using his savings, he purchases an outdated and inexpensive Medabot model, a KBT-type into which he inserts the medal, creating his partner, whom he names Metabee.
The medal Ikki finds is no ordinary component; it is a rare Kabuto Medal that gives Metabee a powerful and independent personality. As a result, Metabee is stubborn, arrogant, and often disobedient, which leads to frequent arguments between the two. Unlike the typical relationship between a Medafighter and their robot, Ikki must learn to work with a partner who does not see himself as property and constantly challenges Ikki’s commands. This friction is central to their dynamic, but through many Robattles, a strong and loyal bond grows between them, built on mutual trust and respect.
Personality-wise, Ikki is not a flawless hero. He starts as an average boy with dreams of glory, and his journey involves learning from his mistakes. His initial enthusiasm can sometimes tip into a brash overconfidence that leads to losses, forcing him to confront his own shortcomings. He can be a bit narcissistic and prone to giving up when things do not go his way, but his naive passion for Medabots and his dedication to fair competition ultimately push him forward. Throughout his adventures, he gradually matures from an inexperienced boy into a more skilled and thoughtful Medafighter, though he retains his core, spirited nature.
Ikki’s primary motivation is his love for Robattling and a desire to prove himself as a top Medafighter. He often challenges powerful opponents to demonstrate his skill and to show that his partnership with the unconventional Metabee is a strength. As the series progresses, his role evolves beyond personal glory. He becomes a defender of the traditional, honorable spirit of Robattling, particularly when faced with unethical opponents like the Death Medarot Company. These enemies create emotionless robots called Death Medarots or Kilobots programmed to win by any means necessary, including cheating, which directly conflicts with Ikki’s values. He takes a stand to oppose these tactics and to protect the integrity of the sport he loves.
Key relationships are central to Ikki’s development. His partnership with his Medabot, Metabee, is the most significant, as they grow and learn to cooperate effectively despite their clashing personalities. He is also close with his childhood friend Arika, who owns a Medabot named Brass, and develops a rivalry with the serious and arrogant Medafighter Kouji. He befriends Karin, a caring and quirky individual, and encounters the wise wandering Medabot, Rokusho. In later story arcs, his resolve is tested by antagonists such as the ruthless Ginkai and Kokuryuu Kamizake, and he receives crucial support and upgrades from a skilled mechanic named Nae. These later conflicts see Ikki taking on a leadership role, collaborating with former rivals to combat a larger threat.
Ikki’s notable abilities lie not in any physical power but in his strategic thinking and his unique bond with Metabee. His Robattle style blends improvisation with a solid understanding of his partner’s capabilities. While Metabee possesses the rare ability to unleash a powerful attack called the Medaforce due to his special medal, it is Ikki’s trust and connection with him that allows this ability to be accessed effectively. Later in the series, Ikki adapts to new challenges by utilizing strategic upgrades provided by Nae, such as new Medarotch functions like Action Mode and Demolition Mode, and enhanced parts that transform Metabee into more powerful models like Saikachis. These tools, combined with his perseverance and growing tactical skills, enable him to face increasingly formidable and unethical foes.
