Description
Linna Yamazaki is a core member of the Knight Sabers, the vigilante group that fights rogue Boomers in Megatokyo. She comes from a rural farming background and moved to the city to escape her overbearing family and pursue a new life. Initially, she works as an aerobics instructor, a job that reflects her athletic build and training. Her lifelong dream was to become a professional dancer, but she failed a key audition; Sylia Stingray noticed her excellent reflexes and strong will instead and recruited her into the Knight Sabers. Linna is also a new employee at the Hugh-Geit Corporation, a Genom subsidiary, when she first witnesses the Knight Sabers in action against a rogue Boomer, inspiring her to join them.
Personality-wise, Linna is the most socially conventional and grounded member of the team. She is pragmatic, hardworking, and sometimes blunt, but also deeply empathetic, especially toward civilians affected by the chaos caused by Boomers. She often acts as the emotional anchor for the group, providing heartfelt warmth and decency in difficult situations. She has a comic side, particularly when paired with the more eccentric Nene Romanova. Though she can come across as superficial at times—concerned with money, clothes, and her car—she is ultimately a loyal team player driven by a strong sense of justice and personal responsibility. She lost her parents in the chaos following the great Kanto earthquake, when a rogue Boomer caused mass casualties that the AD Police could not control, but her natural cheerfulness helped her overcome that grief.
Linna’s motivations are a mix of seeking excitement and purpose beyond her mundane office job, as well as a desire to protect others and prove herself. She is not driven by revenge but by a sense of duty and the chance to make a difference. Her role in the story is that of the team’s athletic, technically skilled fighter. While not as physically strong as Priss Asagiri, she is a far more refined and agile combatant, thanks to years of dance training. Her fighting style emphasizes speed, precision, and close-quarters combat. She pilots a green Hard Suit equipped with ribbon cutters—long, electrically charged nano-molecular ropes mounted behind the helmet that can slash through Boomers—as well as explosive knuckle bombers in the right hand and a finger-mounted triplet laser gun. In later conflicts, the weapons are replaced with electrically charged twin wire-daggers.
Key relationships include her bond with Sylia, who saw her potential and gave her a place on the team; with Priss, whose raw power contrasts with Linna’s technique; and with Nene, with whom she shares a warm, occasionally comic friendship. She also collaborates closely with Mackie Stingray and Nigel Kirkland, the team’s mechanics and support. Her character develops over the series from a country girl seeking escape into a confident and dependable fighter who fully commits to the Knight Sabers’ mission. She confronts her past insecurities and learns to accept herself. In the final confrontation with the super-Boomer Galatea, Linna and Nene are overwhelmed during the attack on the space station and crash-land on a deserted island, where they are left stranded after the final battle.
Linna’s notable abilities extend beyond her combat gear: her exceptional agility and technical fighting skill, honed through dance and martial arts, make her the most maneuverable Knight Saber. She is also an excellent team player, able to coordinate effectively with her teammates in high-pressure situations. Her grounded, practical nature ensures she remains focused and reliable, even when the group faces overwhelming odds.
