Description
Innova is a character who appears exclusively in the anime adaptation of Magic Knight Rayearth, having no counterpart in the original manga or subsequent OVA series. Innova was originally a holy beast kept by Princess Emerode. After falling in love with Zagato, Emerode sent Innova to him, and Zagato used his power to transform the beast into a human form, making Innova a trusted confidant. Before this transformation, during the time when Zagato and Princess Emerode spent time together, Innova earned a deep level of trust from both, being kept by their side. Consequently, Innova possesses intimate knowledge of the forbidden love between Zagato and Princess Emerode, as well as the truth regarding the Magic Knights.
Driven by a profound sense of loyalty, Innova’s primary motivation is to protect both Princess Emerode and Zagato. This dedication leads Innova to confront the Magic Knights directly on two separate occasions. In the first battle, Innova demonstrates immense power, overwhelming the Magic Knights and succeeding in defeating them until the Rune-God Windam awakens, turning the tide of the fight. Following this defeat, Zagato sends the brainwashed captain of Emerode’s personal guard, Lafarga, to eliminate the Magic Knights. When Lafarga is freed from Zagato's control, Innova makes a personal request to Zagato: to be returned to the original formidable beast form to fight the Magic Knights with full strength. Although Zagato initially refuses, he ultimately grants this request.
In this true and most powerful form, Innova once again overwhelms the Magic Knights. However, Innova possesses a critical weak point: a gem located on the forehead. The destruction of this gem proves fatal. Even in death, Innova’s unwavering loyalty is evident as the name of Priest Zagato is called out until the very last moment. This demise also has a notable effect on Zagato, who, despite treating other subordinates as expendable, expresses genuine sadness over the loss of Innova.
In terms of abilities, Innova is an extremely powerful combatant, capable of defeating the Magic Knights and necessitating the intervention of a Rune-God to be stopped. The primary vulnerability is the gem on the forehead, which serves as a vital weak point. The key relationship for Innova is with Zagato, serving as his loyal humanoid servant after being transformed from a holy beast. Another foundational relationship is with Princess Emerode, who originally kept Innova and trusted the creature enough to send it to Zagato.
