Description
Kibito is the loyal attendant and bodyguard of Shin, the Supreme Kai of Universe 7 in the Dragon Ball series. His primary function is to serve and protect the deity, a role he fulfills with unwavering dedication. Physically, Kibito is a tall and slender figure with a broad face, long white hair, and skin that is typically depicted as either blue or pink, depending on the source material. He wears the traditional attire of the Supreme Kais, signifying his divine status and service.

In terms of personality, Kibito is fundamentally kind-hearted but carries a strong sense of divine superiority, particularly regarding mortals. He is initially disdainful of mortals like Gohan and disapproves of them setting foot on the sacred World of the Kais, partly due to jealousy of their immense strength. This distrust of mortals is a notable trait, and in the Dragon Ball Super manga, it is even noted to be similar in nature to the villain Zamasu, leading to a temporary misunderstanding where Beerus suspects Kibito could be Goku Black. However, a key distinction is that Kibito is capable of admitting when he is wrong and can recognize the good qualities in mortals, showing a capacity for growth and respect that Zamasu lacks. He is also portrayed as knowledgeable, studying a great amount about his universe, though he is not omniscient, as demonstrated when he fails to recognize the Metalmen race.

Kibito's role in the story is almost entirely as a supporting figure to Shin during the Majin Buu Saga. He accompanies Shin to Earth and enters the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, where he is scheduled to fight Gohan. During this encounter, he asks Gohan to transform into a Super Saiyan, which leads to the ambush by Babidi's henchmen, Spopovich and Yamu, who steal Gohan's energy. Kibito demonstrates his healing abilities for the first time by restoring Gohan. He then travels with the group to confront Babidi, but his combat prowess proves limited; he is swiftly and easily killed by the demon king Dabura. After being revived by the Dragon Balls, he continues his supportive role, healing the injured Shin and transporting Gohan to the Sacred World of the Kais, despite his personal misgivings about a mortal being there. On the Kai world, he doubts Gohan's ability to pull the legendary Z-Sword, but is proven wrong when Gohan succeeds. When Gohan offers Kibito a chance to wield the sword, he is utterly incapable of lifting it, highlighting the vast difference in their physical power.

Kibito's key relationships are centered on his master, Shin, to whom he is completely faithful. His interactions with Gohan form the other significant relationship, evolving from initial disdain to grudging respect after witnessing the Saiyan's power and potential. His most transformative relationship, however, results in a fusion. After returning to the Kai planet, Kibito accidentally uses a Potara earring to fuse with Shin, permanently creating a new being known as Kibito Kai. This fusion is later undone in Dragon Ball Super using the Namekian Dragon Balls, separating them back into their original forms. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Kibito also has a brief sparring match with the prodigy Zamasu, during which he holds his own for a time but is ultimately outmatched, demonstrating the limits of his combat ability against a truly exceptional fighter.

Regarding his development, Kibito remains a relatively static character, defined by his loyalty and his initial prejudice against mortals. His primary arc involves learning to accept and rely on Gohan's strength, a lesson he learns by witnessing the young Saiyan's feats. His accidental fusion with Shin represents a major change in his state of being, but it is not a development born of personal growth. In later series, his separation from Shin and continued service shows his role as an attendant is his core identity.

Notable abilities include his extraordinary healing power, which allows him to mend wounds and restore another being's energy. He possesses a unique teleportation technique called Kai Kai, which differs from Goku's Instant Transmission as it does not require the user to sense a specific energy signature to lock onto; he can simply will himself to any planet, place, or person. He also has the ability to magically materialize objects, which he uses to create a new outfit for Gohan. While official guidebooks state his battle power is considerably high, enough to give a non-Super Saiyan Gohan a difficult fight, his on-screen performance shows he is far outclassed by major threats like Dabura and Zamasu, confirming his role as a capable but not top-tier fighter.
