Akane Kimidori is a central supporting character who resides in Penguin Village with her older sister, Aoi, who runs the local Coffee Pot café. At thirteen years old, she attends Penguin Village Junior High School, where she is assigned as the desk partner of the android girl Arale Norimaki. Initially annoyed by Arale, she quickly changes her attitude after witnessing Arale’s incredible strength during a confrontation with her cousins, Taro and Peasuke Soramame, and the two become best friends. Akane is a rebellious tomboy with a strong rule-breaking streak, a stark contrast to her responsible sister. She finds amusement in orchestrating pranks on many of the village’s residents, particularly Senbei Norimaki, and has a notoriously short temper. Despite poor academic performance, she is cunning and strategic, often devising elaborate plans. Early in the series, she carries liquor to school, though this habit fades over time. She dislikes caterpillars and peppers, and her signature talent is the Cobra Twist wrestling move. Later in the series, she develops a romantic relationship with Tsukutsun Tsun, and a glimpse from a Future Camera shows that she marries him and is still living in Penguin Village at age twenty-three, with her personality unchanged; the same camera also shows her living to at least age seventy-three. In the Dragon Ball series during the Red Ribbon Army Saga, she interacts with a young Goku and attempts to ride the Flying Nimbus but is rejected due to her impure heart. She also appears briefly in Dragon Ball Super. Following the events of Dragon Ball Z, she meets her end at age forty-three when the Earth is destroyed, but she is subsequently revived along with the rest of Earth’s inhabitants. Her design varies between adaptations: in the original series, she has blonde hair and blue eyes, while in the 1997 remake, her hair is brown and her eyes are yellow. In the film Dr. Slump & Arale-chan: Hoyoyo! The Secret of Nanaba Castle, she joins the group traveling to Nanaba Castle to retrieve the stolen Eye of Rainbow treasure, and in Dr. Slump: Hoyoyo! Space Adventure, she joins a space mission to rescue Midori Yamabuki from Dr. Mashirito.
