TV-Series
Description
King is a major antagonist in the One Piece series, serving as one of the three All-Stars, also known as the Disasters, of the Beasts Pirates. He holds the position of the crew's lead All-Star and is the closest subordinate and right-hand man to the crew's captain, Kaido.
King is a towering individual, standing over six meters tall, with a well-muscled and broad-shouldered frame. His most distinctive features come from his heritage as a member of the near-extinct Lunarian race. He possesses large, black-feathered wings on his back, brown skin, silver-white hair, and a constant plume of fire that rises from his upper back. To hide his rare and identifiable lineage, King typically wears a full-face black leather mask and a dark, form-fitting uniform that covers his entire body, leaving only his eyes visible. His face, as seen when the mask is removed, is characterized by narrow red eyes and a black, laurel-like tattoo circling the outside of his left eye.
Personality-wise, King is a stern and reticent individual who generally maintains a level head in most situations. He is extremely loyal to Kaido, a bond formed after Kaido freed him from captivity decades ago, and he firmly believes that Kaido is the one who will become the Pirate King. Beyond this loyalty, King carries a deep-seated pride in his Lunarian biology, viewing his race as superior to humans. He has a cruel and sadistic side; fellow All-Star Queen refers to him as a torture-loving pervert. King is also highly proactive and not easily intimidated, as demonstrated when he personally attacked the ship of the Emperor Big Mom to prevent her from entering the country of Wano, showing no fear of her or her powerful crew.
King's motivations are intrinsically tied to Kaido. After being rescued as a youth, he dedicated his life to helping Kaido achieve his goals. He was present at the burning of Oden Castle twenty years ago and played a significant role in the Beasts Pirates' takeover of the Wano Country. During the raid on Onigashima, his primary role was to act as a formidable commander, issuing orders to the crew and engaging the enemy's strongest fighters to prevent them from reaching Kaido. He saw himself as an unbreachable shield for his captain.
King has several key relationships within the Beasts Pirates. His dynamic with the fellow All-Star Queen is one of constant bickering and mutual disdain, yet they show exceptional coordination and formidable teamwork when fighting together. The younger All-Star, Jack, respects King and addresses him as an older brother. King also holds authority over the Tobiroppo, the six strongest headliners of the crew, and is confident in his ability to defeat any of them.
In terms of development, King has been a pirate for over three decades, having been Kaido's very first recruit. Born with the name Alber, he was one of the last surviving Lunarians and was captured by the World Government as a child, becoming a test subject on Punk Hazard. It was there, thirty-four years ago, that he met Kaido, who was also a prisoner. Kaido freed him, gave him the name King, and declared him his right-hand man, an act that inspired unwavering loyalty in the young Lunarian. Over time, King became convinced that Kaido might be the legendary figure Joy Boy, a belief he shared with his captain.
King is an exceptionally powerful combatant, with a bounty of 1,390,000,000 berries, reflecting his status as a major threat. His abilities are a deadly combination of his Lunarian traits, an Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit, swordsmanship, and Haki. He ate the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model Pteranodon, which allows him to transform into a pteranodon, granting him high-speed flight and enhanced aerial attacks. As a Lunarian, he can generate and control fire for various offensive techniques, such as projecting a large dragon-shaped flame from his sword or firing fireballs from his wings. One of his most formidable assets is the unique defensive property of Lunarians, which makes his body nearly invulnerable when his flame is active. This forced his opponent, Roronoa Zoro, to first deduce the secret of his durability before he could land a decisive blow. King is a proficient swordsman, wielding a large katana with a swordbreaker-like design, and he fights with a brutal, pragmatic style that mixes hand-to-hand combat with his Devil Fruit and fire abilities. He is also capable of using Armament and Observation Haki.
