Makoto Tamura

Description
Makoto Tamura is a Japanese voice actor and stage actor born on April 11, 1975, in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. He began his career in the performing arts as a stage actor in Tokyo, where he was active with the Ninagawa Company, working on Shakespearean and other theatrical productions. This foundation in live theatre provided a base for his later transition to voice acting, which began in 2009 with dubbing work for foreign films and television series. He was formerly affiliated with Kakehigeki Production and transferred to Amuleto in June 2025.

Tamura is known for a deep, distinctive voice that is frequently cast in roles requiring a sense of gravitas, intensity, or a rugged masculinity. He is particularly active in the field of dubbing foreign-language content, where his vocal qualities have made him the regular Japanese dubbing voice for the late actor Chadwick Boseman. He has voiced the character T'Challa / Black Panther across multiple films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and the Avengers series. Other notable dubbing credits include the Protagonist in Tenet (voicing John David Washington), the title role in Black Panther, and Norman in Da 5 Bloods.

In anime, Tamura has built a portfolio of supporting and recurring characters. He is recognized for the role of Aragaki in both seasons of the boxing series Megalobox and its sequel Megalobox 2: Nomad. He also voices King, a lead member of the Beasts Pirates, in the long-running series One Piece. His other anime roles include Jacob Lessio in Fairy Tail, Shi Haku/Shi Ei in Kingdom, Ganoff in Edens Zero, and various characters in series such as Psycho-Pass 2, Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory, and Reincarnated as a Sword.

Tamura's achievements reflect a successful career spanning live performance and voice work. His ability to transition from stage acting to become a prominent voice in anime and a dedicated dubbing artist for major Hollywood films is a hallmark of his career. His consistent casting as the voice of a iconic superhero in the Japanese releases of the Marvel films stands as a significant professional accomplishment.
