Gabe Kunda

Description
Gabe Kunda is an American voice actor and singer born on January 31, 1994, in Dallas, Texas. He is a first-generation Congolese-American; his parents immigrated to Texas from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1989. Growing up, he spoke French at home before learning English when he started school. He graduated from Mansfield High School and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Dallas Baptist University. Before pursuing voice acting professionally, he was a member of a black a cappella group called Kings Return, where he sang bass.

Kunda began his voice acting career in 2016 after sending an unsolicited audition tape to voice director Aaron Dismuke for the series Nanbaka. He is primarily based in Texas and has become a prominent voice for Funimation productions, often utilizing his deep bass voice for a wide range of characters. His career spans anime dubbing, video games, and commercial narration.

Kunda has amassed an extensive list of credits in anime dubbing. He is known for playing Rock Lock in My Hero Academia. His other notable anime roles include Desha in Ranking of Kings, Gosetsu in The Vampire Dies in No Time, Tenma Hikage in Hinomaru Sumo, Derick Ross in Double Dealer! Doug & Kirill, Bill Zimmer in Cop Craft, Bem in both BEM and BEM: BECOME HUMAN, Kaburagi in Deca-Dence, Orsted in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Wolfgang in Kemono Michi: Rise Up, Alfred Emerle in Seirei Gensouki - Spirit Chronicles, Jungo Takasugi in 2.43: Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team, Qujappat in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, Shadow in Ikebukuro West Gate Park, Qi in Nanbaka, and Shades in Warlords of Sigrdrifa. Beyond these, his anime credits extend to major franchises such as Dragon Ball Super, where he voiced Zirloin and Rubalt, Black Clover as Gueldre Poizot, and One Piece, where he voiced Fisher Tiger and Kashigami.

In addition to his anime work, Kunda is a highly sought-after voice actor in the video game industry, a field where Texas-based voice actors are less commonly represented. He has voiced several high-profile characters, including the robotic initiator KAY/O in Valorant, Newcastle in Apex Legends, Blade in Marvel Rivals, Inarius in Diablo IV, Macaron in Hi-Fi Rush, Owethu "Jackal" Mabuza in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Digby Vermouth in Borderlands 3. He has also worked on various other media projects, including providing narration for an episode of the television series DuckTales and voicing characters in commercials for major brands like Gatorade, Disney Plus, and Walmart.

Kunda has shared insights into the voice acting profession, noting the differences between dubbing anime and voicing video game characters. He describes anime dubbing as requiring precise synchronization to existing lip flaps, which can be challenging, whereas video game work allows for more freedom as the animation is created around the actor's performance. He also notes the quicker turnaround for anime compared to the lengthy development cycles of video games. In 2025, Kunda was featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, recognized in the Changemakers category.
