Description
Bem emerges as a youkai-ningen, a supernatural entity capable of shifting into a monstrous form while relentlessly pursuing humanity. His existence centers on protecting humans from malevolent forces and enforcing justice, believing such deeds might ultimately transform him. Leading a trio with Bela and Belo, he embodies calm intellect, offering stability and familial guidance despite their clashing views on humankind. In human guise, he presents as a gentleman, frequently wielding a walking stick or cane.

Operating within Libra’s divided city—navigating the perilous Outside district and opulent Upper Town—he meticulously prioritizes human safety. Humans consistently shun him upon witnessing his true monstrous appearance, yet he persists in their defense, driven by an aching desire to experience mortal life and embrace death. His abilities encompass superhuman agility, heightened senses, teleportation, electrokinesis for electrical manipulation, and transformative combat prowess in his monster state.

After pivotal events in Libra involving a major antagonist's defeat, Bem parts ways with Bela and Belo. He resurfaces later as "Belm" at Doracho Chemicals on an island city, seemingly living an idyllic human existence with a wife and children, stripped of all memory of his past. This fabricated life manifests his deepest longing for normalcy. Investigator Sonia Summers uncovers him in this state, later revealed as an intricate deception by a new foe. Confronted with the illusion, Bem shatters this false iteration of his dream.

When antagonist Manstroll kills Sonia, Bem erupts into a berserk, amplified monster form, overpowering his enemy. Presented afterward with a method to attain humanity by transferring his lifeforce, he instead sacrifices his own existence to resurrect Sonia. This act fulfills his yearning for a purposeful end while granting her life, implying a spiritual fusion marked by a change in Sonia’s eyes. His final sacrifice concludes his journey, elevating human salvation and connection above his personal quest for physical humanity.
