Description
Göndul is a Valkyrie who appears in the eighth round of Ragnarok, serving as the divine weapon partner to the human fighter Nikola Tesla. As a member of the Valkyrie sisters, she answers the summons of her eldest sister, Brunhilde, to participate in the tournament that will decide the fate of humanity.
In terms of personality, Göndul is portrayed as a willing and trusting partner. When Nikola Tesla requests to use her body for the Völundr, she gladly accepts, demonstrating a complete lack of hesitation or reluctance. Throughout the fight, she places full trust in Tesla's abilities and decisions, a confidence that remains unshaken even as the battle takes a heavy toll on both of them. This trust appears to be reciprocated, as Tesla carefully analyzes her condition before the Völundr to ensure she is capable of withstanding the process.
Göndul's role in the story is intrinsically tied to her partnership with Nikola Tesla. She is the source of power for his unique combat suit, the Super Automaton Beta, which is created through their Völundr. Her transformation is distinct among the Valkyries, as she does not become a traditional weapon like a sword or gauntlet but instead becomes a technological battlesuit based on Tesla's own blueprints. Göndul's energy specifically fuels Tesla's most powerful ability, the Tesla Warp, a form of teleportation. However, this ability carries a significant risk; if the energy expenditure exceeds safe limits, both she and Tesla will die.
Her key relationships include her bond with Brunhilde, who orchestrates the Valkyries' pairings, and her fellow Valkyrie Göll, who is often present during key moments. However, her most significant relationship is with Nikola Tesla. The two share an unconventional yet deeply cooperative bond, with Tesla treating her as a genuine partner rather than merely a tool, and Göndul offering her very existence to enable his genius.
Göndul's development over the course of the fight reveals her resilience and sacrificial nature. When Beelzebub unleashes his devastating attack known as Chaos, both Göndul and Tesla are severely damaged. Despite the immense damage and the apparent hopelessness of the situation, Göndul continues to power Tesla's suit and helps him remain standing even after his defeat is assured. Her narrative arc, tragically, ends with Tesla's death. Following the demise of her human partner, Göndul also dies, disintegrating as she reaches Niflhel, the realm of the dead in Norse mythology.
Her notable abilities are centered on the unique Völundr she performs. Unlike the typical transformation into a melee weapon, Göndul transforms into the Super Automaton Beta, a suit of technological armor that grants Tesla superhuman capabilities. She serves as the power source for all of the suit's functions, with her energy being particularly crucial for the Tesla Warp ability. Her bond with Tesla is so complete that her life force is directly linked to his, ensuring that his death inevitably leads to her own destruction.
