Kayleigh McKee is an American voice actress known for her work in English dubs of anime series, animated television, and video games. Born on January 14, 1994, in Macomb, Illinois, she grew up in Galesburg and developed an early interest in acting and singing, taking on major roles in musicals throughout her childhood and college years. Her father, a fan of anime and tabletop role-playing games, introduced her to the medium. Inspired to pursue a career in voice acting, McKee built a home studio in rural Illinois to gain experience through freelance and independent projects. In late 2016, she moved to Los Angeles to formally pursue voice-over work, receiving training from prominent industry figures such as Steve Blum, Eliza Jane Schneider, and Debby Derryberry.
McKee's career in anime voice acting has featured a wide array of roles across different genres. In 2021, she voiced the character Pina in the Netflix anime series BEASTARS. The same year, she took on roles in Record of Ragnarok as Randgrid and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and as Bat in The Detective Is Already Dead. She also voiced Sei Satomi in Kageki Shojo!!. The year 2022 marked a significant period of activity, with McKee landing the lead role of Matthias Hildesheimer in The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest. She also portrayed Joan of Arc in Requiem of the Rose King, Tasuku Kuresawa in Sasaki and Miyano, Isamu Tamaru in Kotaro Lives Alone, Kusunoki in Lycoris Recoil, and Kai Harn in the Netflix series BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-. Other credits from this period include Itaru Saito in The Prince of Tennis II and minor roles in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean.
A major turning point in McKee's career came with her casting as the lead character, Yuta Okkotsu, in the 2022 film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. She has shared that she initially auditioned for the role without knowing the character's significance in the story, recording her tape in approximately ten minutes. Upon learning she had been cast as the protagonist, she realized the importance of the part. She later reprised the role of Yuta Okkotsu in the second season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series in 2024.
Beyond anime, McKee's voice work extends to Western animation and video games. She voiced the character Scarab in the 2023 series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake. In video games, she is known for her performance as Testament in Guilty Gear Strive. She also voiced Varden Dawngrasp in Hearthstone, which was noted as the game's first non-binary character. Additional game credits include roles in Genshin Impact, NEO: The World Ends with You, Octopath Traveler II, and Cassette Beasts. Her work spans multiple major dubbing studios, including Bang Zoom!
