TV-Series
Description
Kashima is a major antagonist and a subordinate of the enigmatic assassin known as Slur or X, later playing a more complex role in the story. He is a tall man, standing 184 centimeters tall, with an unnaturally heavy build weighing 300 kilograms due to his extensive cybernetic enhancements. In public, he is almost always seen wearing a realistic reindeer head as a mask, paired with a black business suit and a floral-patterned tie. Underneath this mask, his face has a gaunt, long appearance with light-colored hair streaked with black, sunken eyes, and black fingernails. His body is covered in numerous stitches, including a distinct X-shaped stitch over his mouth, which conceal the various weapons integrated into his form.

In terms of personality, Kashima presents himself with a cordial, businesslike demeanor and unfailingly polite, honorific-laden speech, even towards his enemies. Despite his terrifying abilities, he holds a paradoxical respect for the sanctity of life. He is shown openly weeping when his subordinates are killed in front of him, and he becomes hysterical over the needless injury of a cockroach, which he then stomps on to give it a merciful death. This twisted empathy stems from his own extreme and misguided sense of justice. Since his youth, Kashima has believed that inaction in the face of evil is itself an evil act, and he is willing to commit terrible deeds to eliminate those he deems bad, once killing classmates who were harassing stray cats. He feels profoundly misunderstood by a world that condemns his actions, and he found purpose and validation when the leader Slur praised his efforts. This has made him fanatically loyal to Slur, whose permission he views as the ultimate justification for his lethal missions.

Kashima is not just a field operative but also takes on administrative and technological roles within Slur's organization. His primary motivation is to follow his master's agenda to upend the current world order of assassins, believing that this path will lead to a form of justice, even if it requires great sacrifices. He is a meticulous planner, as seen when he and his division seized the Okutabi Lab as an independent project to further research on advanced weaponry, rigging the entire facility with explosives as a scorched-earth tactic. His role in the story is first as the main antagonist of the Lab Arc, where his path crosses with the protagonist, Taro Sakamoto. After a brutal battle where Sakamoto defeats him by systematically using everyday objects to disable his mechanical body, their relationship undergoes a significant shift. Following his defeat, Kashima, having been brought back to Sakamoto's shop and repaired, eventually becomes an uneasy ally. He agrees to help Sakamoto stop Slur's future plans, including an assassination attempt on the JAA chairman, on the condition that Sakamoto promises to save Slur rather than simply kill him.

Kashima's most defining characteristic is his extensive body modification, with approximately 70% of his body having been surgically replaced with mechanical parts and weaponry. His skeleton has been replaced with an artificial construct that includes steel cables, making him extraordinarily durable; he can have his neck snapped or be dismembered and simply reattach or realign his parts without feeling any pain. As long as his brain remains intact, he can survive and continue to function, even if reduced to just a head. His body is a living arsenal. By removing the stitches covering his body, he can unleash a variety of built-in weapons. These include a mass of sharp blades hidden in his left forearm, a gun with wire-guided grappling hooks on his right arm that can extend like a segmented blade, a directed-energy weapon mounted inside his mouth, and a powerful cannon embedded within his ribcage. This combination of robotic resilience, lack of pain, and concealed firepower makes him a formidable opponent, capable of briefly holding his own against members of the elite Order, though he is ultimately outmatched by assassins of Sakamoto's caliber.
